So from here it doesn’t seem like I’ll be able to find a specific part for the bypass?

Go check out that hose listed earlier at a local repco and check the sizes, L36/L67 are the same for all those parts.

Yeah that one listed earlier is only a single size though so I must have a different top piece that it connects to with the bottom being the 30mm

Someone has probably removed something. It's an old car and clearly it's been messed with. No need to over think it :)
Yes but doing stuff like this makes it hard to do things the usual way when a problem like this arises.

Possibly the heater tap was leaking? The reason why his mate setup the bypass hose? So he could keep the car on the road.

I've looped mine out because the heater core started leaking.

It's really not a big deal (other than the leaking heater core), a couple of hoses and heater tap to put it all back to stock. In my case, I've cut one hose and looped it. New hose, new heater core and it's fixed (ignoring removing the whole dash and HVAC system)....

That Immortality would have been the way I would have done it.

I read here (jc forum) somebody going to Bunnings & bought brass or copper fitting, that has both sizes.
Long time ago that l read it.

That is if I wasn't looking to get the core swapped.
I've replaced a core once and it took me 14hrs. I paid to have it done on the old ute and it was probably 8hrs or more labour. For me it was worth it as the flaps in the heater box were not working properly, so it ended up being a rebuild of the box as well as core and evap replacement.
