isnt the idea of locknuts so that no one else has the same tool for it?

Meh depends where you buy them.

Most the generic ones have like X amount of keys spread. So ideally its like I dunno lets say 1 unique key per 1000 sets.

Most of the time its just to slow down the person trying to nick your wheels and or discourage them.

When Jason Bright had his wheels stolen, they smashed his passenger side window, took the tool out of the glovebox, removed all his wheels, and left the car on jacks.
