My VS has done 180,000km now....how much further should I expect out of it? I don't ring the **** out of it (often) and I'm planning on an engine rebuild in the next 6 months or so...

how long is a piece of string. with regular servicing and replacement of necessary parts that fail i'd hope for 400,000k'lms - 500 it really depends how you look after it and service it. I'd say if you don't thrash it your gearbox will go before your engine will

A mate of mine has one that has done 380,000 with no real problems.
Every mechanic around here says they will easily do 500+ if they are looked after properly

Mine has done close to 240k. When they were running them as taxi's down here they were doing 8-900k quite easily.

    Good Good.

Would any modifications I could make to the vehicle warrant turning back that clock so i could get a more accurate reading of what the vehicle is going to last?.. Without breaking laws of course.

After rebuild etc, I'm sure it'll last a lot longer than if I hadn't rebuilt it.

Kms don't always tell the whole truth about a car. Kms alone will never tell you how long a vehicle will last/has left in it. Sometimes I worry about clocking up lots of kms, but then I tell myself that cars are made to be driven:thumbsup:

Yeah to give you a good idea. I drove a few cars that were 150 k's 200 k's that were falling apart when looking for my car. There is a guy on here that bought a vn or vp with 300k's on it and it drove like brand new. How someone treats the car and looks after it will depend how long it lasts. If a vs is regularly serviced and driven nicely you can get it to 200k's and it will still drive and idle like brand new.

Just do regular oil changes. Maintenance is key

Yeah the previous owner of my vs was an old lady, so it had dents and scratches all over it, and the bonnet was a bit damaged, but apart from that, It works ****ing excellently.

First thing I did when looking at it was pull the cap off and have a look at the sump...oil was stable as all buggery .

would you believe it, she sold it to me for $2800 too...full service logbook, ever 20,000km or something.

the first thing I did when i got it was change the oil, transmission fluid and brake fluid.

Oil was clean, very very little metal in the oil after changing it (as in...tiny fragments...barely visible in the bottom of the tray after emptying it), the transmission fluid was fine..hadn't been changed for a while but it looked fine, no telltale signs...
