VU II Maloo
Hey Guys,

Well I'm not the best with cars, just been using it as a work horse at the moment, but its finally **** itself on me, running it without fluid :/ so I'm assuming the bands and cluth pads have ####ed themselves. 4L60/65E Builder Level 4 Complete Kit 1997-2003 - Trutechtrans.com my main question is would this kit suit my ute as described in the title. and i need a direction to get a new torque converter not sure where to look. or could anyone be able to show me a site within australia that supplys kits and converters.

many thanks.

VZ SS-Z Ute
Yes this will fit, I have just finished a rebuild with same seller/kit (plus a few extra bits) into 4L60e for a VZ SS ute with LS2.

If you tow a lot in 4th on highway or freeway then I would add in the Sonnax 4th Servo.

Also kit does not include Torrington Bearings, Early aluminium forward piston (needed if you use the included Sonnax input drum reinforcement kit), wide Sungear and Stator shaft bushes (just std ones),Hardened pump rings, Low/reverse roller clutch, Electrical items, nor any valve body wear repair items.

Note the included 29 Element Sprag is Raybestos (HD BW version is more popular with most builders).

You will also need some specialised tools (Spring Compressors, Teflon seal resizers, Snap ring pliers, pump alignment band, bushing drivers, valve body reamers - if you need to repair) and a good rebuild manual.

Fit a good large aftermarket trans cooler (essential with a higher stall converter)

I have a Fuddle 3200 HP converter (billet cover) with wide clutch that I had the stall lowered to ~2500 by Dominator Converters (previously brake stalled to 3200 but flashed to 4000 - too loose for me, now 2500 & 3200). If you do a lot of towing then stay on the low side for stall, I also like a large clutch in the converter so I can keep locked when towing on freeway uphills in 4th.

Make sure you have PWM disabled either in Valve Body or Tune if running a non-stock torque converter clutch material (which is pretty much all billet cover converters and likely all smaller than stock converters) or you will quickly burn out the converter clutch and dump the debris through the new trans.

You should really get trans tuned with stall to maximise performance with converter.

Have a good read on ls1tech forum in auto trans section - lots of info on DIY rebuilds, seems DIY have a high failure rate on first attempt. I built mine to learn, my original trans was still going strong with 270,000km on it (I've owned the car since new).

Cheers
Jamie
