I’ve tried to find something on car sales sites. It’s how I got the VIN for a Series 2 VE Calais to get the trims I needed for my S1.

They don’t seem to list the VIN anymore in the ads.

I am literally one step away now. I managed to reprogram by ABS module after much trial and error. It is now programmed as follows:

Engine: V8 L76 & L98
Transmission: 6Sp Manual MM6 T56
Body: 4 Door Sedan SWB
Suspension: FE2 or Calais
Brakes: Standard or HSV

This fixed the C0569 error code. But the U2105 Symptom 71 error code still exists, which says Invalid Signal from ECM. My theory is that the E38 Operating System I am using is for a Thunder Ute, and Utes didn't come with my ABS module. So the OS is sending the wrong kind of data to the ABS module, and it's not happy. So what I need to do is use the OS from a Commodore, because those came with the ABS module the GTO uses, the 0265 900 325 module. So here is what I need:

I need the VIN from a 2006 VZ Commodore that came with an L76/L98.

6 speed manual would be preferred but automatic will work if it's the only thing available.
It can't be a Ute or a Wagon. It has to be a 4 Door Sedan for this to work.
Does anyone have one of these cars that would be willing to share their VIN with me?
6G1ZK54H96L563050 it's my 2006 L76 4L60E SS sedan , see if that does the trick !

Yeah VIN used to be shown in adds and seems to have been removed from carsales adds. But dealer still list rego as the example below shows, private sellers may or may not

In this case it’s a Victorian dealer and the add shows rego as YIF 127. VicRoads has a website to check rego status.

So entering the rego will show the vehicle details which for the car in the add is:

Registration number: YIF127
Registration status & expiry date: Current - 27/07/2022
Vehicle: 2011 BLACK HOLDEN SEDAN
VIN/Chassis: 6G1EK5EV0BL543699
Engine number: LLT110760448
Registration serial number: 6071365
Compliance plate / RAV entry date: 04/2011
Sanction(s) applicable: None

It’s a pain in the rear as they used to include VIN previously but now they want to monetise the free search that for example VIcRoads provides. Everyone is money hungry grubs these days

This is for an SV6 and didn’t look for a V8 so VIN probably not relevant to OP but the following is an auto ss again VOC registered so it’s vin may help the OP.

Registration number: YKH950
Registration status & expiry date: Current - 18/08/2022
Vehicle: 2011 RED HOLDEN SEDAN
VIN/Chassis: 6G1EP5E28BL542968
Engine number: BBC110410100
Registration serial number: 6131829
Compliance plate / RAV entry date: 04/2011
Sanction(s) applicable: None

FINAL UPDATE:

The last piece of the puzzle has been solved!

I finally got my hands on a VZ Commodore VIN with L76 and automatic, and reprogrammed my spare E38 with it. Sean and I had to hack the OS to "convince" it it was a manual, and this in a funny way also fixed the clutch switch problem. Because while 99% of the OS thinks it's a manual, the other 1% that controls the Park/Neutral safety switch still thinks it's an automatic. However, it starts fine the way it is clutch up or down, so it's still not "safe", but I can at least start it now with the clutch in.

Still, this is all worth it because the Commodore OS will talk to the ABS module, and my ABS and TC are working again. Took it for a spin this afternoon, I had ABS when I wanted it, and could turn the TC off and slide the car sideways as well. As a result, I am officially declaring this project complete.

Five months of trial and error, joy and disappointment, lots of lessons learned that taught me everything I need to rebuild my Crewman, and in the end, I have the world's only E38 powered VZ Coupe. I'm sure it won't stay that way, and I'm sure at some point someone will ask me for the secrets, and I just might share them. But this was a cool project. Wrap up episode coming soon!

Guys,

This will be my last post in this thread. I can now officially declare that Project E38 has been completed. All the car's original functionality has been restored. And it's now the only VZ Coupe in the world with Automatic Starter Disengagement (if that counts for anything, LOL).

I shouted out a couple people on here for helping me out with this project, but I want to send a thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread. I'm hoping it will spawn some interesting GTO projects, and Holdens as well. If for some reason anyone Down Under wants to do a conversion like this for themselves, have them get in touch with me. I'll help out as best I can. For now, I'm gonna go drive the tires off of my car :)
