Considering the age of the car I'd start with sorting out your suspension first. It'll make it feel a lot more comfortable and depending on whether or not you're going with coilovers, airbags or factory suspension, it'll give you a better idea of what wheels you can use once you're sorted.
You won't get super deep dish on your wagon without extensively modifying your guards. There's widebody kits available, but only for the Utes and sedans. The sedan one is also stupid expensive, and the Ute one looks a bit... Idk. Weird.
I'd say check out the wheel and tire fitment thread in this forum. It'll give you some ideas as to what sort of fitment you'd be after.
i even found that the old engine mounts made my old car run a bit rougher over the bumps, there's more to suspension that just shocks and springs.
