Have a bit of a puzzler. My son has a vy wagon v6, which he only recently purchased.
He has receipts from the previous owner for a new water pump, thermostat and hoses, which are obviously new.
The problem is over a 200km trip it used 4 litres of coolant, there was no obvious leaks when the vehicle stopped, the temp gauge never rose on the trip. When I checked the radiator it had coolant, however the resivore tank was bone dry, I put in about 3 litres of coolant and it started flowing out of the resivore I couldnt see where from as it is hidden in the wheel arch. Iam wondering if the resivore tank could have a leak or does it have an overflow if overfilled. Any ideas would be appreciated before we take it to a radiator specialist.

Lower Intake Manifold Gaskets get the cooling system pressure tested to prove the gasket is leaking?

I was thinking along this line have read elsewhere that they leak, Is there any other way other than pressure testing to tell if the gasket is leaking

lf it didn't overheat and coolant is within the engine etc maybee a cracked reservoir if it draining out before starting. Maybee spend the weekend and have a looksee in the wheelarch.

Will do this weekend, if car is available he works on call and if he doesnt have a shift will look at it. It seemed strange to me that when i filled it the coolant ran out when it was full, thats why i wondered if the resivore had an overflow for excess coolant

Signs of leaking manifold gaskets are condensation under the oil cap. Oil floating in top of radiator, & gunk under the radiator cap.
No signs of water under oil cap or in oil. Radiator, coolant is perfectly green and clean with nothing not even specks of rust
