I am assuming this VR is ODB 1, right?

Geez, seems like you have a bad case of the Gremlins on that Ute.

Is anoying (to see on my side) that you are getting all this drama after spending that much coin.

I would help from here but not sure if a 3800 TPS from the US cars is going to work. Even if they look the same, the values might be different. I would if I you were at driving distance.

The later model L36 or 3800 V6 series 2 (ecotec to us) engines use a reverse rotation TPS, looks the same, same plug etc but opposite orientation. The earlier 3800 V6 uses a different TB to us so I'm not 100% sure if they are compatible but they are a GM sensor so no doubt there would be an equivalent unit on GM engines.

Our V6 motors use ALDL but use the OBD2 plug from VR onward.

Yeah ALDL which is like OBD1. Commodores weren't OBD 2 until VZ Alloytec, in the V6 at least, not sure about when they started OBD 2 in LS.

I think early Buick say 93, may still have used the same sensor not 100% sure when the change was. Looked at US DFI and it's looks same but haven't been game to try.

I'm thinking US parts may be from Delphi Mexico and not Chinese but I'm only guessing.

My concern today is getting it to a garage. Left work early to try and move it before bloke shuts. I'll work from home when I get back.

Hi Losh. Sorry I haven’t tried to help you a bit sooner :)
I have attached some extracts from
the factory VR manuals.

The TPS is just a potentiometer between GND and 5V. ( 5V reference supplied by the PCM)
You should be able to backprobe
the BLU wire at the TPS plug and slowly open and close the throttle to watch the output voltage . According
to the manual it should NEVER go to
5V. If it does a fault code is logged.
Possibly a sudden application of WOT
is causing it to overshoot because of any slop in the mechanism.
Also could be the 5V reference from
the PCM occasionally drifts high.
Hope this helps.

So would we all but, we are all too tight to buy them, probably why they no longer exist hence why lots of us brought new cars. If I could still buy old oem parts, Id still drive my HZ tonner and my vk but they both ended up with the similar problems your are having now. Aftermarket parts Id replaced failing weekly.

Still has me buggered why my VC doesn't break down on a regular basis....Drove it every day for 7 years straight and only had an alternator crap itself....Had 2 coils crap themselves....The original one and the replacement....3rd one still. going strong...Had 2 modules crap themselves...The original out of the blue and one because I washed the motor down and it got wet....Had the brake booster crap itself....The exhaust crapped out, after being on a few different cars over a 16 year period (still annoyed at that one :) )

The car is off the road at the moment, because I decided to put a better engine in (ie nastier) and sort out the C.V in the tailshaft....Tailshaft been recoed and motor in and running....Just got to get the exhaust done because I went from a red to a blue and the 2nd hand system I put on is a little sad and doesn't line up with the new extractors...Went from a red to a blue.

So I'd love to know where I'm stuffing up by it not breaking down on a regular basis....

Finally sorry for the thread hijack :)
