Yeah but over 30 bucks on a $140 tyre thats a huge inflation in 7 months. I need tyres towards the end of the year. Given that should i expect to pay over 200 for what is not a high performance tyre? I bought plenty of sets of tyre over te last 30 years and have found maybe 7-10% increase over a year not 20%. Thats 5x the rate of inflation.....

Depends on what time of the year they put the price up for a particular brand...Every brand puts the price up at a different time of the year

The crappy Australian peso makes the whole thing worse when it's worth bugger all so it's costing the importers more to buy the tyres from os, so they charge us more to make up for it.
This is becoming the dum country! Can't make cars, can't even make tyres..

I can remember getting retreads for my shovel nose corona for $14.95 each fitted and balanced back in the early '90's :(

I had a few retreads that stood up to a fair bit without an issue. But then I bought some decent tyres and went Oh, so this is what steering feels like!

Thats 5x the rate of inflation.....

Manufacturer's don't give two sh!ts about the inflation rate.

Their costs are their costs......and their desire for ever greater profits remains their desire for ever greater profits.

Like with anything, it comes down to "what he market will bare".

Same with $13 pints or $6 coffees. If people refused to pay it, they couldn't / wouldn't charge it.

I had any defect tyres replaced as long as the tread was still half decent. Had 1 grow a cricket ball size bubble on the side, at least 2 went oval, tread separating from tyre base, and 1 flatty they found a staple embedded in the rubber coming from the inside ? ? ?

Ive had some failure with retreads delaminating and some that wore the tread out. I never hear much about retreads now. Not even sure if they can be bought in Tas. I'd go SH from the wreckers over retreads now. IMHO they would want to be pretty darn cheap to even consider using them.
