Sadly that's a horrible attitude
Didn't say i would actually do that just could if i wanted to lol. Its just a weekender and toy. Also a test car for some ideas i have just have to get around to it.
I have lined up some parts for the ute from a wrecker 2hrs away. Need to inspect the parts but on the list is a tonneau cover, Stato cloth seat and a column radio shroud. Fairly expensive $45 for the shroud, $110 for a drivers seat and $50 for the cover. It is what it is and anything VR/VS ute or Stato is really hard to come by in Tas.
Appreciate people's thoughts on $110 for a cloth Stato seat, is that considered quite a high price?
Sounds like I should buy the next reasonable $400 VS I see and take it down to Tas for a holiday on a one way ticket
If its a Stato for $400, you would make money parting it out. An Exec VS sedan they are still fairly common, and plenty in the wreckers a ute on the other hand are rare, especially if it was an SC or V8 or even a VR ute they are much harder to come by than a VS. I still need some VR ute specific interior parts. Hoping that the wrecker I am seeing on Thursday still has the steering column shrouds that fit under the wheel and that they are in good nic. Also need the cover and needle for the shift leaver. Indeed very hard to find these, I can get VS ones but the dash fascia and column shrouds are different on a VS and would be hard to make it fit.
Be cheaper than hiring a car.
I'll look out for statos and utes then. That would be an awesome holiday Touring Tasi in an old Stato
Drove 2hrs for this. I said no at first and asked if this was the one i spoke to the boss on the phone about. Turns out it was and it's the only one they had. Went back had another look and sratched at the moss on the seat. It loosened up so i decided to grab it. Paid 100 bucks and 50 for a tonneau cover that will be a lot better than the one i have, which has a big long rope (old school style). The new one has short toggles. Need to replace some clips that sit near the window as not all line up on the new cover.
Shouldve haggled harder mate - they'd let that go for $50. They're not really worth anything unfortunately - it's usually a struggle to offload all cloth seats/doorcards as everyone wants leather.
Yeah they're about $50 each if you can find decent one...I do the rocking test whilst still in car which majority of them easily fail.
Sorry but please do enlighten what the part is that fails apart from the front floor LH mount which is rather flimsy I must say. If that's the only issue then just swap over that rail with one that's good. Sometimes it's really hard to find good drivers seats in the correct trim combination you want and if it's just that rail mount then simply buy the seat and swap it over, this way you'll have a great seat and rail.
Unfortunately they go for over 100 bucks each here. Like I mentioned before anything Stato is really rare and commands a high price in Tas. If I live in Adelaide or Melb sure I could get one for $50. He was the only wrecker in the north of the state with a VR or VS Stato that wasn't completely trashed. There is one wrecker in the Launceston region who has a Stato and like I mentioned it's ruined. The windows have been left down and the seats were totally fucked. The same self serve wrecker wanted $80 for two kick panels. That one I mentioned has sat there for 10 years. Town wreckers haven't seen a VS Stato in over 16 years.
Hobart is over three hours away and I may not have saved anything, if I could find one down there. I did walk away when I saw the condition. He wanted 110 and after spending 60 bucks on petrol to drive to find a rare seat I was like "far out I have driven over two hours, one way to buy a $50 tonneau cover", that I could have had freighted for $20, which too no one within 2 hours had.
I wanted a set of steering column shrouds but mine were different to the VR column ones he had there. So in a nut shell had I left with just a cover it was a waste of a whole day and shitload of petrol.
Even mud flaps down here are expensive. Wrecker wanted $20 each. I was like nah mate. I will keep looking and try to find some for 10 bucks a pair, I think that's fair. Trouble is because old parts are rare, wreckers ask a mint and they get the high prices because they know there is nothing much left, so people have to pay it.
Can't even give mudflaps away here, I usually just bin them
Even genuine? This is the **** we are up against, parts that not long ago were binned, are now being charged at stupid prices.
I am even having trouble finding tonneau cover posts. I went to Holden and they don't have a listing, tried Repco they can't get them. They sent me to Rare Spares and the ones they have don't in the factory holes. Canvas place referred me back to Rare Spares as he said he can't get them, either. I was like FM...... Rare Spares said my only hope is finding them online.
Do you mean the posts behind the window that the tart clips on to?
Contact tuff tonneaus.
If you’re talking about the stainless post things - I got mine off eBay.
Yes the stainless posts behind the window. I will check eBay.
How many do you need?
I think i got 3 or 4 spare ones from when i put the hard lid on. Used a few on my other ute but can send them down no cost if it helps.
