im losing coolant from somewhere but my rad doesnt look like its leaking and its not pressurising or anything. anyone foun d anything similar?
Check the heater tap, the radiator around where the coolant hoses connect to it, around the heater hoses, welsch plugs on either side of the block, and look for coolant dripping out of the torque converter cover... On mine, I had to replace the heater tap, radiator, and rear gasket at the back of the block as ALL of them were leaking coolant. EDIT: Also you could be losing coolant if your radiator cap is no good... buy a new cap anyway as its only a couple of bucks.
If its not pressurising (as in the hoses are not under pressure) then as shaggerz says buy a new cap. Thats your cheapest and first choice I'd reckon.
mate agree with shaggerz, check yer tap and all hoses (heater and rad). also release your belt and check your water pump
well, i got a VR n i was losing coolinate from some where while my temp gage going sky high. i found the prob..... i put the heater on n on my feet when i was wearing white pants well after bout an hr of cruzin i jumpd out of the car n my pants wern't white no more. my heater core was cracked!!!! to check this: make sure radiator n reserve is full, if not fill them up and BLEED the it thro the thermo stat,( by unscrewing it n the coolant coming out of it) when u have done that make sure you have a deciant amount of coolant coming out ( like a stream) every time you touch the excelerater, if you get a sum coming out and then none then more again it means you have air trappd in your hoses. leave the thermo stat undone until you get a stream. tiuch the excelerater every so often to help achieve this. when you have done this go for a cruiz n make you temp rise. put the heater on n u mite feel a little bit of coolnate spit out. once home put a pice of white paper up to the heater n set the controls for the heat to blow on your feet. put the paper up to the heater as much as close as you can. after bout 30 sec move the paper n if you c little bits of water or coolnate on it go get your heater core checkd asap...... coz there really pricey. ciao Vanessa maco_butterfly@hotmail.com
my car lost a fair bit of coolant a couple weeks ago, no idea what it is. water pump is probably 8 months old if that, heater tap replaced literally a week before it happened because the mechanic broke it when changing the plugs (it is/was the original tap so i knew it was long in the tooth) and the cap is not much older so im really stumped. thermostst is new too because the old one failed about 6 weeks ago. the onlt thing i can think of is a welsh plug because the are no damp patches on the radiator. anyone had this issue?
is there excessive amounts of steam from the exhaust? sounds like an internal head leak (gasket). get a compression test
I lost the good green stuff recently. So i took the car for a drive then came back and parked it on the concrete outside my shed, then came and looked for wet spots. This took me right to the culprit
on the drivers side of the engine bay, under where the abs stuff is, right down low near the spark plugs, it has 4x radiator hoses coming from it ,2 go to the engine and 2 to the heater through the fire wall. It has a little bell shaped thingy ( thats the technical term...) on top. I replaced mine in 19 minutes last week. WOOO including coolent bleed haha. I broke it while draining heater core, because it wasnt working and i was going to flush it. i got the part from repco for $41
