Hey guys, my VR keeps losing water, and i cannot for the life of me figure out where from. It's not a gone head gasket or anything like that, it just keeps emptying the resevoir and using water. I'm assuming it's something loose around the engine so its evaporating? Any ideas would be great, pissing me off.
common area's are: heater tap, radator split tank, inletmanifold gaskets (usually oil in water too), heater core (warm water dripping on passangers foot or smelly carpet), radator hoses, manifold coolent passages (plastic bungs in manifold front and rear), welsh plugs. might want to get a pressure check done.
Most likely the inlet manifold gasket has started leaking or has blown.A very common problem.Id get the cooling system pressure tested to see where the coolant is going to.Hows the radiator cap.A bad cap can cause a loss of coolant through the overflow bottle if the cap is not 100%.Try a new cap first.
i just had to replace my radiator cap as the rubber seal had gone and it was leaking i agree start with a new cap, they are only about $8 start with the cheaper fixes first
yer mine was leaking from the radiator cap i replaced it then the inlet manifod gasket had a blow out
Alright i'll give it a new cap, doubt it is a gasket as the engine was only fully rebuilt 50,000 ago and there is no water in the oil.
Sometimes ,depending on where exactly the gasket leaks or blows, you dont always end up with oil in the coolant or vice versa. If a new cap does nothing, get the cooling system pressure tested. This test is cheap.
just cause there is no water in the oil doesnt mean it hasnt blown a head i had one blow inbetween the water jacket and exhaust once so it leaked coolant out under the car and 50000km is alot if you thrash the hell out of it but its probably something simple could even be leaking out the heater box in the car does the car have a musty smell inside or are the floors wet?
Alright, put a new cap on today. Was HEAPS more tight than the original, the rubber looked pretty worn. I'll give you an update if it was the issue.
also ur cap pressureizes the system thus lifting the boiling point if the cap does not hold correct pressure it can boil off. not saying u should hear it boiling round.
