Loud whine - but only while coasting/ decelerating

    Before you go chasing big buck fixes, has the diff oil been checked or changed, ever ?
    Jack up both rear wheels, any slack or clunks turning the tailshaft or wheels by hand ?

    Check the Centre Bearing on the tail shaft.

    PS: There is always a whine when the mrs get in my L67 :eek:

    This is spot on. The fact you can play a tune using the accelerator peddle definitely points to the diff as it goes from the drive face of the gears to overrun on the back side of the gears.

    You could try changing the fluid to something heavy duty but ultimately it's delaying the inevitable.

    Mechanic swapped diff for a good used one. All quiet now. The old diff was knackered, when they opened it up the oil was full of metal filings. Not really surprising since its done over 330k and I'm not always gentle on it
