Hey all,

Have just purchased an 07 VZ wagon.
Has an unusual whine/humming. My kids say it sounds like whale music!
Only happens at low speed around 35 to 45k while it's warming up. Kind of disappears when you accelerate and stays when coasting.
Anyone had anything like this or have some ideas? Cheers.

I’d be looking at the accessory pulleys on the front of the motor.

Have a look at the edges of the belt. Any slight wear? Maybe so frayed bits.

Alternators can whine, also water pumps.
Draw a pic of the belt then remove it and spin everything by hand and see if sumting is or feels noisy/gratey.
Also check for coolant coming from the tell tale hole under water pump.

It's very hard to tell. It sounds like it's coming from everywhere. Old owner said the hanger bearing was replaced and then the sound started. Will investigate that first.

It’s at that k/m’s that things need to be replaced, general maintenance items.
Hanger bearing, meaning the centre bearing on the tail shaft,
possible, if it was replaced with a s/hand one.

it could be a number of thing,
From Front hubs, Power Steering Pump, to pulley bearings, transmission noises, centre bearing, diff bearing/gears due to no/lack of oil, wheel bearings, or the fuel pump, HVAC fan, or door seals causing the noise.

There are a number of thing it could be, but it’s a case of elimination without throwing parts at it first.
