    Hey Guys,

Ok, so i got a 1999 VS Ute (pretty much stock) the other day and i want to lower it a little. What do you guys recommend? I dont want it too low as i drive on a fair bit of rough dirt road. I have heard king springs are the way to go, will these even fit my ute? I think the lows would be low enough for what i want, super lows may be a little low for dirt roads, what do you think? I want the front and rear lowered.
I talked to a guy the other day that said i could even cut a little bit off the stock springs myself if i wanted it a tad lower and save some money, but then some people have told me NOT to do that, what do you reckon? Any other suggestions would be much appreciated!

    Cheers

    hey mate

i wouldnt get king springs, because they are just CRAP!! if you are wanting to lower your ride a bit but not much i would suggest some FE2 Springs. these springs are a better quality then king.
lets just say king springs are cheap copys.
Get a pair of FE2's they will go well in your ride.
    hope that helps

Get king springs they're reputable enough IMO. I have lows in my car if you want an idea of what height your gonna get on stock shocks, if you're on really rough roads maybe look into heavy duty springs?

yeah, like at least one WRC team that runs Kings. :whistling

Ride quality is alot more to do with shocks that springs, because springs have linear compression (not to be confused with linear or progressive rate) meaning that it doesn't matter at what speed the springs are compressed, the same effort is required. Unlike a shock, where the faster the shock is compressed, the more effort that's required, which is exactly what they're designed to do.

There's a reason why Kings are the largest spring manufacturer in the southern hemisphere...

How about lowering blocks? Are they any good if i just wanted to lower it a fraction? Will they effect the ride at all?

Lowering blocks are for leaf springs, not Coil springs.

I didn't think FE2 lowered the car? my car still looked like a monster truck when it had
    FE2's in it.

Make sure you don't get cheap shocks either, if your lowering best to get shorter shocks int he rear IF when you raise the car and both wheels are off the ground, you can move the rear springs.

When I went from FE2 to super lows ( I only wanted lows but someone stuffed up) I could jack the rear up, reach in and remove the rear springs.

    TIP OF THE DAY

Ok so I lowered my VT today. IRS ofcourse.

For the rear springs to come out you need to undo the shock, unclip the brake line (passanger side) and it should drop down?? haha not quite!!
Some people Ive heard have undone the axel from the wheel side.
What I did amazed even me lol

I jacked the car up one side at a time...
Then undid the rear shock and uncliped the brake line.
BUT how the hell was I sposed to jemmy the axel down without un-doing it?
The answer is... I used two jacks. One to jack the car up and one between the axel and chassis. jacking the axel downward with ease and the springs just fell out:)
Careful if you do this though because once the axel is jacked down it becomes spring loaded. Safest way to jack it is to have the base facing streight along the axel.

No need for spring compressors (which I didnt have anyway)

Once the standard spring was out, it was a matter of holding the lowered spring in place whilst lowering the axel jack.

You can depending which state you are from.
Here in Victoria they have to be the same height all round.
as stated in VSI8 vehicle modifaction faq

I had FE2 springs in the VR, it's about 30mm lower then stock. Threw in some pedders sports ryder coils on the weekend, sits/handles very well. Still a legal height too. I'd definitely reccomend them, you will need short stroke shocks as well. I got monroes put in about a month ago in prep for the new coils ;)
