gday fellas, i am looking at lowering my car myself....i wish to do everything properly..no shortcuts.. just wondering what will need to be changed and what it will have to be changed to... obviously springs and shocks...and panhard rod but am i missing anything?? also wondering if anybody has spotted any guides to lowering as ive scopped these forums for a bit now and havent found much..
to save some money on parts that don't need to be done front shocks don't need changing, rears only need changing when goin to or lower then superlows and the panhard rod is only required if you are using some wierd offset wheels, i haven't needed one with my sedan and ute which were both on superlows
You don't NEED an adjustable panhard rod in the rear on superlows, but your track will shift slightly, and it all depends on whether that bugs you or not If you have wide wheels or fat tyres, this could cause guard clearance issues without the adjustable rod. If you really want the car to handle, also invest in: - slightly thicker swaybars - a strut brace - harder bushes (nolathane or similar) in key areas like the saybar link pins - GOOD shocks, like KYB or Bilstein (depends how much you want to spend) And keep in mind that there are a whole variety of springs out there, depending on the type of ride you want from your car. Kings aren't the only brand available, and their standard springs aren't the only type available. You can get springs that are tapered toward the top, for a "soft spot" to allow for bump-comfort, but which then, once those springs are bound in cornering, much stiffer toward the middle for anti-roll support. I personally run linear springs in the back of my VQ, which are thick and evenly spaced from top to bottom, so there is no "soft spot". They are firm right from the start. My front springs also run with the first four coils bound when level, and only roughly two coils of travel left below them. I know that whiteline have a good name in swaybars and other aftermarket suspension products - ask around outside this forum and see what various people recommend Depending on how much you want to spend, of course. All that said, if you're on a tight budget, then standard Kings springs and Pedders Sports Ryder or Monroe GT shocks are often cheapest.
thanks morton... where would the best place to get all this gear from? ebay?? or is there somewhere better??
I have no idea, to be honest I know you can acquire a lot of products through Repco or Autobarn, but I bet you'll be getting ripped off >_> A good suspension place will be able to acquire the parts for you - perhaps compare prices? If you have a trusted suspension tuning shop, it'll be worth asking them.
id say suss this out http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/gsl-rallysport/62648-commodore-lowering-kits.html done through the forums and provides good quality stuff for a reasonable price.
