nah says trans-M78. i remember when the car was purchased there was no manuals made for the vn v6 at the time and holden had to hurry to make one up for this vehicle so i might even have a different transmission!!?? Could explain why it is so much quicker than other vn's manual or auto!! Keeps up with the vn ss for comparison. maybe different gear ratios or something. pretty cool to think it might just be the reason for its better acceleration.

My compliance plate on the Wagon has Trans M-78. (6/10/88). I's an auto now but as a 5 speed it was a rocket.

Holden almost didn't make the 5 speed because it was so harsh, but I'm glad I owned one for 13 years as it was fun to drive on the open road.

    What day in Sep 88?

Under the bonet on the firewall behind the a/c dryer a VIN plate has the full date..

My VN was built on the 6/10/88 306610 and had a M-78 trans

Just a thought I had the other day....

Would the lexcens be included with VN built no's? Or would they have their own Toyota one?

They are included. (Holdens built car bodies for Buicks some time ago too)

I now think the recalled serial number of 273550 is the First VN made.
The VN shared production with the VL for around 5031 units. (as far as issued s/n's)
    VN Range = 273550 to 533600.
The 5 Millionth Holden is in that range.....

    I have the S2 VP starting Mar 93 - s/n 626461 (approx)
    They only made 19089 s2's
They made Vp's at the rate of 178 cars a day.

Yep in the middle it is. VN's were made for about 33 months.

I think Holden made them well by then...
