After talking with a guy from the states about the LS1 motor he tells me he can do a full rebuilt motor at 480HP for $3999 long motor or $1389 short motor. eaither way add another $750 for freight and shipping from the states to sydney . Does the price sound good for what he is promising or should i ask for more details? Its a guy from ebay (thompsonmotorsportsagogecustoms) Also does a LQ4 motor and i was thinking WTF till he said its a 6.0 litre engine that is a direct fit to my LS1 except its made from Iron and adds 75lbs (34KG)
I've been reading his website alot lately Thompson Motorsports (since your last post)and unsure why its an LS1 aluminum rebuild when the LQ4 is a iron block and the bore is completely different (4.00). oh well means more power but will be heavier as you said in your other thread may need to change reluctor or get a converter All I can say is make sure your getting a later model block 04+ (revised oil passages). Also 480hp at motor doesn't sound overly much with the CNC heads although its up to the how good the heads flow (maybe get him to send you some airflow data and post it) and how decent the camshaft is! Maybe 480hp is the base power with small cam etc ie 224/224 also if you get a cam with decent lift around .600 I would upgrade the springs from the pacs to the PRC duals The only other thing I wouldn't want to be pulling it out for warranty issues and so forth that would be another 1500 + time spent sending it there and back. I wonder what he'd charge for a short motor not assembled (using your heads/aftermarket cam and valvetrain), then at least you can have it assembled here and may have some luck if anything goes bad - short motor pretty cheap from them anyway
Yep for sure, i was thinking of a short build as well for that reason that was i can see what has been done to it etc.
would it be idiotic to ask if there's anyone in goulburn or even wollongong who knows what they're doing?
be carfull buying stuff like this from the states. my mate bought a "800hp" 4l60e trans for his camed up senator(330rwkw). first off he got smashed with import tax that was about $1000... got it through customs and installed it and the box only lasted a week of normal driving before it lost 2nd gear. pulled it out and took it to a trans place to pull apart and inspect it and the guy said it was a dogs breakfast in there of miss matched parts... got onto the guy in the states and they said they'll send another one got that one installed and it happened again.... then couldnt get a hold of the guy in the states anymore surprise surprise. if i was you and this is what ive started to do is just buy parts from the states and just get it assembled here that way you know 100% of whats in your engine
It depends on the company. If you buy from a good company you will be safe, but if you see a deal, most likely you will face trouble. Yea also there will be huge customs fee. Returning will not be an option. I say spend a few bucks more and get it done locally with warranty. You will have to search hard for a good engine builder.
Yeah at least aussie wide its safers, any how this was a reply i recived from the seller on ebay We offer it in 4 forms of long block packages and can build anything custom for your app. If you look at thompsonmotorsports.net you will see the options. For the stock cam stock replacement is $3349, Our 405HP has an aftermarket cam at $3499, Our 365hp with Custom cam and CNC heads is $3799, and our 380HP is $3999. Keep in mind that shipping will be about another $250 for a long block as well. Thank you, Kyle 972-853-0518
