I have just fitted extractors to my wl statesman. Once complete I reconnected the battery to find the heat shield on the starter motor shorting on the starter motor. I fixed this, I thought.

Went to start the car, fuel pump primed and so forth.....turned the key to start and.......nothing.

Now interior lighting works, now no odometer showing, clock not working, horn not working, no stereo. On first attempt to start I had a odometer, now nothing.

I have checked fuses/relays and all seem ok.....I may have missed something as it was getting late.

My question is what damage might I have caused, what can I do to try find the fault and is there something I have missed?

1 of the issues was the main 60amp fusable link was blown (couldnt see it that late at night), other was the heat shield was still earthing on the starter motor. The sheild is only clamped on, so when I slid the extractor up from underneith (drivers side) it slid it forward on the solenoid about 1".
The clamps on the sheild are the exact size as a groove on the solenoid, and one of the terminals (causing the short) because the 4into1 extractors are so big its a very tight spots to correct it
