hey all
looking at buying a 383 stroker kit for my ls1 vt ss
i dont know a whole lot about this so im just wondering what your thaughts are

my vt is pretty much stocko engine, only extractors exhaust and a ls1 edit
so first im wondering if i should even bother doing it to a stock engine or m i going to have to change a whole load of other components in my engine ?

also would like to know things about:
power gains
anymore ups and downs ? if anyone else has fitted a 383 kit to ls1 ?
and labour costs ? im thinking its gunna be a allot ?

thanks lads

If your gonna go 383, don't use the cheaper kits like COME.

Eagle or callies stroker cranks are good options, i personally went callies.

You will need pistons and rods to suit the 4" stroke crank, again eagle or callies for rods,
Pistons - there are plenty out there and choice will depend on application ie boost, N/A
But Diamond, Eagle, Ross all good. You will need to specify compression ratio with piston choice also.

To get the best out of a N/A stroker you will need a decent camshaft and valve spring/pushrod/timing chain/oil pump upgrade.

Then theres the ARP mains stud kit and head stud kit.
Don't forget Machining for new pistons etc, balanceing and assembly

$$$$$ add up fast !!

just buy a crate l98 or ls3. itll make more power, be better to drive and probably work out cheaper.

L98 orLs3 wont make same power as 383 unless modded my 383 has got 450RWHP 335 RWKW(STD T/b,intake manifold) and pulls hard, nice and torquey .It is expensive though and drinks fuel.dont forget clutch if manual or rebuilt box if auto,Heads/cam, fuel systems etc It really does add up but you cant beat the sound of a cranky N/A motor.Good luck its all good fun

an l98 with a small cam makes 335rwkws eaisly. GMM mototsport do a 550hp l98 for 8000 or so drive in drive out. includes fitting and tune. IMO thats better value for money and will use less juice. cant go past a stroker for noise but.
