Hi there folks. I'm interested to hear of anyone that has fitted exhaust dump pipe valves on the Commodore. It would be good to hear from you. I've seen a few kits on the market but none are designed the way I'd like. The ones I've seen act as if there's a hole in your pipe. The flow to me isn't right. To much gas flow goes to the muffler direction and not out the dump pipe. Attached I've added a drawing. The top version to me looks as tho the flow would be better when the valve is open. When it's closed I'm not to bothered about performance. I'm more into the performance when it's open. The version below is the type you can buy off the shelf. Also, I'm looking for a 3" dump valve system. I'm running a Di Fillipo system.
Good question. But you won't like the answer. My partner thinks I'm nuts doing this to my Commodore and I'm sure lots of you fine folk will think the same. But my Holden is just a toy I use for a bit of fun. It lives in the garage most of the time, it's not a daily driver. My brother owns a farm with a purpose built skid pad. I first built my Holden just for skids. So right now I'm wanting to do this to add a bit more fun on the skid pad. And I've always wanted to run my V8 just on headers. The link below is for those of you that like skids. Hope it doesn't offend anyone. It's straight off my youtube channel. (pete401)
We're pretty lucky to get the use of bros skid pad. The neighbours are pretty good about it too. Better to have fun on there than on a public road.. There's lots more of stupid **** like that on my channel Feel free to subscribe. Once this dump valve system is setup and I get my Clubby re-built I'll be throwing up some more vids. Below is an image of a system you can buy off the shelf. Though the electric operated solenoid butterfly is a good idea the pipe design isn't what I'm after.
Some hi-po performance cars are fitted with these from the factory including the ZR6 Corvette. You should be able to buy the valve by itself, then make your own merge pipe the way you want it. Personally I don't see to much of an issue with it, the exhaust gasses will take the path of least resistance so when the valve opens that's the way the hot air will flow. If you make small extensions of the valve and point it at each rear tyre it will help to make a good smoke show, although you seem to do just fine without it as is Cheers
Cheers. I was hoping there might be someone on the forum that have done a similar thing. Yeah it looks like I'll get 3" pipes fabricated up to suit.
I've seen some cheap ones where theres just a plate that covers the opening. All you'd have to do is get under it and undo 6 bolts.
I've done similar, After my 2 pipes joined into one I made an output to a flange with a block off plate (all free stuff off a Legnum getting wrecked. It had a 2.5" exhaust, so I stole the flanges) Rocked up to fathers day drags, 2x 17mm nuts and the plate comes off. Then bolt up a 2.5" drag pipe that poked out from under rear of back door. Race all day. 2x 17mm nuts, pump up rear tyres, drive home :spot on: View here (post #16): http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/vr-vs/206331-vr-v-8-ss.html I decided that it was too small so have changed it now though.
