This is a metal cold air intake that was welded together by a well known tuner for my VE SS Ute.

In the early days I often put my hand on it after driving to check the temperature and not once was it ever hot to the touch.

The Ute's long gone but I still have the intake in my shed because it worked so well and I couldn't just throw it away.

VEGTS BUILT BLOWN E85
some IAT sensors react faster then others, mine in the manifold (harrop blower) next to the inlet of no.1 cylinder will get a little heat soak as the air does in the manifold and as soon as i go WOT i can see the IAT instantly goes down few deg from the cooler rush of air then starts to rise from the boost, as its used for fueling it needs to be accurate

On my Harrop OTR, I wrapped the maf in exhaust heat shield. In heavy traffic the iat went up much slower and came down more quickly. I also just changed to a roto-fab for easier filter cleaning.

Just a reminder, I have VCM Otr fitted and dealer won't check the filter at regular service interval. I bought a spare filter and change it myself as it takes time to wash and oil the filter. The filter gets dirty quite quickly, need to be cleaned regularly.

How quick is “quite quickly”?
Like monthly?

Would largely depend on the driving conditions mate i.e. if your driving in dusty areas frequently then it probably would be monthly otherwise every few months in regular conditions

Thats to be expected by design i.e.opening location and size.

Does VCM sit in front of condenser ? Anything sitting in front of the intake opening ?

It has a scoop that comes down over the a/c condenser towards the front grill

Yeah...that would explain why it gets dirty quickly

I guess that's the whole point, its going for a large and short air path to increase flowrate into the engine. That necessitates you'll pick up more crud.

I saw an interesting discussion on snorkel intakes for 4x4s. Whether the higher intake prevents or increases dust intake
