Absolutely, just depending on kms the marks might be very difficult to see in a cave with a torch. The other thing I would do as part of that would be rotating the crank and wiggling on the pistons as they travel. Like I said ripping heads off for a weekend inspection is not everyone's cup of tea. Nothing beats an open air looksee

I saw the bores when the lifters were done. They looked fine.

I saw the bores when the lifters were done. They looked fine.

That's right, I always forget LS lifter swap requires the heads be lifted :(

I don't understand why they couldn't have done the lifter portion of the heads like sbc. Perhaps due to the trays.

I’d guess ease of manufacture is the primary reason and then the fact they wouldn’t be able to sell so many head gaskets and head bolts if they designed it for better serviceability could have a minor part in it…

I think the design was probably done to improve block rigidity but IMO it probably wasn't required. But yes, plastic lifter trays to cut costs.
