So yesterday the mechanic put about 600mil too much oil in my LS3. I supplied the oil and there is only 1.1 litres left in the bottle out of 10 litres, should have been 1.7 left in there as it takes 8.3 litres. I rang them and they said it's not an issue however i'm a bit sceptical of that. It's about 20mm over the full line on the dipstick. Should i drop the 600mil out?

The LS3 takes 7.6 litres including filter. Where did you get the 8.3 litre figure from?

From the mechanic, also all the oil companies state 8.3 when you search for recommended oil

Just read the book, 7.6. I've dropped 700mil out today, will drop another 500 tomorrow. I wonder if it would have caused any issues driving around yesterday with 1.2 litres too much oil. I'm super annoyed about it to, this mechanic is well regarded in Canberra, never going there again.

the E1 HSV use 8.3 incl filter, it can be a little over when cold best to check after its warmed up and circulated, once it cools down and more oil runs to the bottom it can raise a little which is fine, but 20mm over is too much but i doubt it would have damaged anything

Thanks for the reply mate, yes it is an E1 R8 LS3 so 8.3 makes me happier. I dropped 700mil this morning, cold it was reading 50mm above the full mark.
Im super annoyed at the so called professional workshop that did it. I have had work done to my FGXR6T by them and always had my cars serviced by them. The head mechanic just changed and a fair few of the mechanics. I'm still amazed they told me it would be fine. A few other things were off during the service as well but i won't go into that.

Sorry, I just assumed you were talking about an LS3 Holden not HSV. You need to update your ride in your profile.

My E3 Maloo needs 7.6l to fill to the full mark, so does my L77 in the Redline.

Yep I'm sure, there was about two months the E1 got the LS3 in 2008, just before the E2 came out.
