Hi all,

Having just gone from the LS3 Calais V to the Senator LSA, I've noticed the under-bonnet temperatures have significantly increased. It's particularly noticeable when I check the dipstick. In the LS3, I could easily wipe the oil off with my fingers without being scalded (when a rag wasn't available), but with the LSA, I can't touch the bloody thing for more than a second or so. Not to mention the various hoses etc, which seem to be much hotter than the LS3..

I'm assuming this is normal, but just wondering if anyone else has had the same experience?

I don't have a blower, but I dare say it's normal when you consider the extra energy it produces, more mechincal mass in your engine bay which has a thermal effect/ heat increase generally in your engine bay and the blower works of the crank.

I could be totally wrong, but seems logical.

I would say now that you have a blower your future research would eventually lead you to IAT temps.

So jealous of you FYI. Hehe.

Thinking of possibly getting a crate LSA for my car.

Kirk (GenFGTS) on the HSV forum has an interchiller product that expands and taps into your aircon reservoir to lower IAT.
It's a good product and should be considered alongside any power upgrades you may want to do.

Check out the Autowerks Facebook page, Sonny has been doing heaps of interchiller installs lately. You could drop in or give him a call about it

There is probably a good reason HSV fit lots of extra coolers on the GTS model.

If the Senator doesn't have an engine oil cooler it may pay to fit one. Use an adaptor with thematic valve so it only uses the cooler when required.

A good CAI is also worth the effort. When I modified the cai on the missus car so it gets cool air the engine operating temp came down and it takes longer to heat up when stationary.

kirks interchiller's only cools the intake air charge not your engine, and are used to get more consistent runs usually on the strip but can be used on the road. It bypasses the standard heat exchange brick and as stated above utilzes the ac gas to super cool the liquid in your intake heat exchange. Your oil temp will stay the same mine sits at 107-109 deg normal driving.

also remember your car is new and the engine is tight so you would expect it to run a little hotter
