Finally got the LSD sitting in my garage now old mate said the cones have been tightened? So it will lock up easy is that correct ? also what oil do i use
To put it simply, yes. But the cone arrangement will still direct the majority of the torque to the wheel with the greater traction.
Ok cheers man, yeah he was saying that its had work done and as tight as it can go or whatever, And if I was to do a u turn and cops were there probley wouldn't be good idea lol specially being a ute that's light
It all depends on the thickness of the thrust washers used and the compression rate of the preload springs. After you install the differential housing in the car, remove both brake rotors and use a torque wrench on a wheel stud with a nut locked up on it and measure the tension needed to rotate the axle. A spring scale will work also. The minimum amount needed to rotate the axle is 70Nm. Anything below that and I'd be reconditioning the centre.
according to workshop manual lsd diff requires, manual hypoid gear oil SAE 90 gl5 so penrite 80w-90 gear oil would be my preference. any 80-90w lsd gear oil. and you can put a tube of diff treatment in there as well if you like.
I used the castrol stuff in the missus diff, diff went noisy after a little while Previous to that i've always used Penrite oils in my diffs without issues. For an LSD use only oil that is rated for LSD use. rather that just using an 80w-90 use the 80w-140 if you intend to abuse it.
In my experience, I've had a bad run with all Castrol oils. As immortality stated, I run Penrite also. The best LSD oil I would recommend, would be Penrite Sin 80. It's an 80W-140 fully synthetic LSD oil with friction additives already present in the oil. But at $60 for 2.5L it's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for and it's a great oil. You can even use Penrite 140W premium mineral gear oil, that is also a great oil.
