Bought the oil and filter. Can someone please tell me where the filter is located? Never serviced the Astra before and may not now this time either.

So the filter they sold me was wrong. Also the oil in the books are wrong. I took it to a mech near work and got them them to service the car. He told me he could use 5w 30 but the engine will die due to a lack of oil pressure. Ended up using his oil which was 15w 40.
Oh dear me.......More "lost"books.
Simple to look up the correct oil for that vehicle on the Castrol site.

most automotive shops , Repco , Super Cheap , have a database where you can check these things too , as mentioned regular oil changes are what is more important .

The oil in the books is wrong...........I don't think so...........You need to have a chat with The General.

The books base the viscosity on a new engine not one with 215k on it.

Right?? I trust the opinion of a qualified mech who has seen what can happen to high mileage engines that have too thinner oil in them.

If ur talking about the General as in GM then we know how wrong they are. If i listen to GM i would change my oil every seven years and wonder why the car is giving me problems.....
