hi everyone

was wondering how do you meet people into cars when you work in hospitality and work weekends when car shows and swap meets are usually on which is probably best place to meet people into them.

one reason in the probably many reasons is last week (21/2) the sister blew the engine up in her astra on the way home from the adelaide fringe and it had to be towed back on a flatbed truck so thats ok.

tomorrow (3/3) the father is going to tow it to the wreckers and thats ok as shes decided to move it on because of the extensive work needed to be done to engine.

however the towing to wreckers thing is making me think about how much am wanting to meet people into cars and stuff and having more chances and having at least a work place of your own to work on things and have a better chance of the cars and storing a weekend and show one.

how do you get chances when you dont yet have a work place of your own at minimum and what can you do to try and hang on until you can buy your own place or if the car you got which you like doesnt quite have enough towing capacity and you cant afford to change it for something with more capacity.

how can you attend swap meets and car shows and meet people into cars when you work in hospitality which always works weekends when those events are usually on which is probably best place and also when people are usually going out doing stuff? what can you do to try and hang on until the time is right to get out which means get out.

what are the clues that its time to change jobs and what can you do to try and hang on until youre able to get out and do something else thats closer to normal business hours and have a weekend and a life as well.

love working but also like to have a life as well and worked in hospitality for nearly 14 years and feel its time to start thinking about a way out and 14-15 years of giving up your life is long enough and missed out on a lot because of the hospitality industry.

plus its got harder ever since it re opened after the 2020 shut down and hasent gotten any better.

also the owner of the cafe that am working at is selling it and it may take a week or may take a couple years no one knows but when it sells or after her 60th thats it am getting out even though will keep in touch.

also what other jobs can someone like me do that has a mild disability but can still work part time and is there hope for someone like that to find other part time work and get a bit more money to supplement centrelink since youare able to earn x dollars before it affects it but report fortnightly.

am planning to do handyman starting with the basic stuff and include test and tag and maybe if needed add something else which surely will be enough work to do it 2-3 days a week.

if anyones got answers thatd be great

thanks for reading and understanding what am going through

thanks

Welcome to the forum, there's are plenty of good blokes and chick's on here to help

Hospitality workers are very underrated and bust your asses and sometimes treated like ****. Maybe changing joints can help get the hours you want

We really can't help with the job decisions as that's up to you and where you're at with in life. Buy sometimes a change in job is as good as a holiday. Just don't choose a hobby as your new job. You'll end up hating your hobby.

I've meet plenty of car heads with disabilities, nothing stops the addition of modding your ride. Maybe some battles/mods are not in your ability and you need to use a shop. If it comes to this, ask around for recommended joints so you don't get ripped.

For the car side, honestly if you're keen as to get into it you end up making do with the space you have available. I started in a 1 bed unut and any car mods were only minor as I didn't have a garage.

Being part of a forum you do make friends along the way, and you'll meet some in your state/city. There are car meets during week nights. Facebook is the place to find them fortunately or unfortunately :(

Take the weekend/s off that the car meets are on....

Career choice...No one can advise what career is best for you....That's something you'll have to decide...

why have many chosen to leave hospitality after the big shutdown in march 2020 causing shortages where theres not enough workers so more people leave.

just trying to hang on until the time is right.

think that being in hospitality is reason why its hard to meet people into cars and girls and having chance to go out with one and talk to one because hospitality usually works when most people are out doing stuff.

badly want to get out but at moment time isnt right and trying to hang on until it is.

You work in the industry you want to work in..You're the one making mention of the possibility of a career change and you only can decide what career you want to pursue....

Meeting people at car shows, requires attending them....Car shows are advertised well in advance, so it ain't hard to book a day off when they are on....It's as simple as when you know it is on,, walk upto the boss and say, I'd like to take such and such date off....SIMPLES

the hospitality place is very short staffed and probably will be until it sells. it used to be easier to get it off but people have left since 2018 and theres not enough staff

why have people chosen to leave industry after lockdowns.

feel the industry hasent been same since 2020 and would have left when industry re opened if it wasnt for the owners

You are asking for advise and are being given that advise based on what you have posted...Now you are coming up with reasons why you don't want to take that advise....

So it's this simple buddy...you decide whether you want a career change and if you do, what career you want to take. No one can make that choice for you

You also decide whether you wish to book day/s off to attend car shows, where you meet like minded people or not....

Finally you decide whether you wish to take advise given to you....Reading your posts, it really seems you don't want to, which is your choice

will eventually leave hospitality just at moment time isnt right yet plus giving it till owners 60th and shes 57 now.

however shes selling shop and planing a way out now even though am not doing anything in a hurry because the shop could sell this week or could take a couple years no one knows

also think reasons why people are leaving is because during shutdown they found easier jobs which paid same money or more in fewer hours or could be they done it for a lot of years and when local areas and states went into lockdown they decided its time to re-evaluate or could be that people close to pension age decided to retire earlier or people are worn down and are tired like me from working harder while people were travelling more locally plus could be a bit of everything, would that be right?

do yous think hospitality will go back to way it was and people will travel elsewhere again or will it continue to be same

have also heard that during lockdown people realised how hard it was

The hospitality industry isn't the only one...All industries go through stages of people leaving for a career change....Be for less hours, better money or both...Or they want to retire early so they can enjoy life while they can.....

Of course people will find another job, if the place they are in doesn't give them an income to live off...Not everyone lives living off the dole...The ones that do are bludgers...

Will it go back to how it was...Probably....When...Only those with a crystal ball know that....

So at the end of the day, you decide what you want to do.....No one can make that choice for you
