Anyone here made their own gaskets before???
ive herd of them being made out of manilla folders or even shoe boxes...
Are they just as good? is it a bad idea??

ps..sorry i posted this in the how to section first by accident

You can cut your own gaskets out of gasket material. You can buy the material from most auto parts stores.
If you were desperate you could try cardboard, but I would not think that it would last to long.

agree with muttley, if your going to make your own use gasket paper. its available in different thicknesses and its pretty cheap, less than $10 a roll.
Much easier to buy the proper ones tho.

yes home cut gaskets work fine.
Cereal boxes are the choice as they are a little thicker. you still go them inplace as you would a normal paper gasket.
I made one for a diff and years later no leaks.

Gaskets aren't expensive, just buy one instead of messing about trying to make one out of cardboard.

they will work in the right places (cereal box gaskets) but dont use them as head gaskets or anything like that.
