Anyone here made their own gaskets before??? ive herd of them being made out of manilla folders or even shoe boxes... Are they just as good? is it a bad idea?? ps..sorry i posted this in the how to section first by accident
You can cut your own gaskets out of gasket material. You can buy the material from most auto parts stores. If you were desperate you could try cardboard, but I would not think that it would last to long.
agree with muttley, if your going to make your own use gasket paper. its available in different thicknesses and its pretty cheap, less than $10 a roll. Much easier to buy the proper ones tho.
yes home cut gaskets work fine. Cereal boxes are the choice as they are a little thicker. you still go them inplace as you would a normal paper gasket. I made one for a diff and years later no leaks.
ahaha im not tryin to be poor or anything....its just i cant get my hands on one until tuesday....and i was being impatient hahaha.... whats a water pump gasket worth?
they will work in the right places (cereal box gaskets) but dont use them as head gaskets or anything like that.
