hey people, i have a 1997 VS series 2 commodore which has an automatic transmission..i just want to know how much it would cost to convert it to a 5 speed manual?

i have heard that when converting to manual you will expierence problems in the long run..not particularly with commdores but with any car..ive read that it may damage the drive line, diff, motor?? and ive read you must change the ECU chip because it is originally programed for an automatic transmission :S sheesh i derno! but sounds likely

so any way back to the point, if i do decide to convert to 5 speed manual, will i be expecting problems in the long run?? and how much am i expecting to pay for a good manual transmission conversion, including eberything i need!

    thanx fellow commy owners

Expect to pay around $1500 for just the parts !

Manuals are only hard on the driveline if you drive them hard... ie. dumping the clutch !

i did mine a while back cost me $1800 for all parts, $600 for installation, and another $600 for misc things that needed to be done. i would say that if your going to drive the manual hard to upgrade the diff, it may not be necessary but just to make sure your not going to break anything. so far i havent had any problems, and if you can be bothered doing the conversion, its worth it.

Thats a rediculas price... the only diff to a 5 speed is the box and the bell housing.. thats it. I cant see why it would cost ya another 3k just for that... my VN was converted to manual.. 2k in parts(only cos i was lazy and had them all shipped to my door insted of me searching wreckers) 800 in labour to install and a 300 new clutch... find a grpA 6spd box and bell housing and your done.. 6k is way way way way to much just for a 6 spd... you could charge your car and have a 5psd for that much.

true, that does seem lyk a pretty expensive cost for a manual conversion

yea im with akwazere on that one, thats very expensive! you could easily get all the parts for less than $2000 but like him i was lazy and had them all shipped to me in a package.
