hey, before i started to rebuild my car the box did have a noise coming from itwhen the clutch wasnt engaged, but when it was engaded the noise would stop also a bit of vibration through the pedal too. now ive put a new clutch cable in and the car hasnt driven as far as 200 meters since jan last year. im getting a shuddering and a large rattle coming from the box. but when its engaded it shuts up and seems fine.

what would be happening here and is there anything i can do to fix it without chucking in a new clutch?
any help would be much appreiated

you didnt by any chance get the box half in and let it hang on the clutch and input shaft cos this can bend the clutch plate real easy makes them shudder as you let the clutch out to take off.

Mine has about 250+ kms on her and she has a rattling sort of gear noise coming out of her when you leave it in neutral and have the engine running ..its always had it doesnt seem to affect anything...I always thought it was the dexron oil being thin and a bit of racing clearance in the box now.
I did find a spun spigot bush (wanker before me was a bit of a butcher or the mechanic he used was)that I replaced when I replaced the clutch and throwout and pressure plate...there was some nice grooves in the flywheel (machined it out)but the clutch plate had plennty of meat on it ...the spigot bush was giving a noise when you first started it .

you could try that first :)
i'd say it's your throw out race gone dry , shuddering is also an indication of worn out clutch/pressure plate,or you have hot spots on your flywheel, grooved, etc, spigot may have spun,or even just a plain oil leak, leaking onto flywheel, clutches don't like oil :),that can also cause a shuddering

Also I found the spring on the pedal broken and the light to no tension put on the throwout fingers was giving a on off sort of running noise.....the broken spring actually pushes the throwout bearing against the pressure plate so it runs against it all the time even with your foot off it.
The way I could tell was that you couldnt adjust the cable to the right amount Spring was a bitch to get on too...in the end I put it on in a different way so it still worked but wasnt at anywhere near the same tension.
