you deserved it...

ok do another self diag,
theres 3 things that usually go at this age that cause the same issue

1. DFI moduel (under coils on the coil pack unit)
2. CSA (crank angle sensor)
3. ECU

i had a faulty ECU that told me my CSA was dead, then told me my o2 sensor was rooted... turned out the CSA was fine, and same with the o2 sensor.. DFI moduel and ECU went..

i know this may sound silly man, but check all the ignition leads... when it coughs and splatters its not getting enough spark to detonate the fuel properly and equally, one might be loose and the spark plug might only be getting %50 spark, other than that sounds like a coil pack issue maybe you blew a coil, easiest way is to borrow a mates coil packs to find out... sucks you need the car operation and need it now...

do more testing...
and we'll try to help, hope your daughter gets better man

Could also be the fuel pump playing up now...it can cough and splutter because it's not got enough fuel pressure to run.

When my pump died, it would only JUST idle, but only for a few second before it died.

Check your fuel filter, and pump.
