hey guys
i wanna turn my spare computer into a media centre
but dont know what software to run anyone got some recommendations

Are you trying to stream to tv or are you just looking for centralised storage?

ill be streaming from another computer but also want to record tv

So TV capture card at the least. This program will probably help.

I use vista 64 inbuilt media center along with a windows remote . Media center starts up as soon as I turn on pc

There are soo many options for media centres.

Xbmc, wmc, total media portal it all comes down to the skin style and how it looks. They all do the same thing. Have a look at some of the skins and choose one to ur liking

win 7 with media center is a great inbuilt library and player solution for the newly media centre ppl.

are you goin to be steering with k/b mouse?
also are you recording free to air tv?


the beuaty of win7 media center - great hardware support.
plug and plug /and no need to relearn an os.

but downfalls are is bloated in its stock form (alot of unneeded crap for a simple mc)
and if you are using (entry level) or (old hardware) can run slow/crap

+1 for XBMC, runs on most systems, even older ones with relative ease, full remote control functionality and works with most TV capture cards.
