memcal removal

    i'm going out to the local wreckers to source sum parts and was thinkin of going thru the vn,vp and vr cars and checkin out the memcals in the hopes of finding an upgraded one. chances are nill but still. i know this should be straight forward but dont wanna stuff it up. how do you remove the memcal from the ecu. i kno it's behind the passenger kickpanel. thx guys

    also from what models will the memcal be compatible?

    only the VR memcal will be any good for the VR as i beleive they are 256k (i think the CN/VP only had 128k) and also the VR has the 4l60e electrical auto so you need memcal to suit the tranny. best person to ask would be greenfoam

    only a VR one will work in your car & it must be for the same transmission type
    theres instructions for removing memcals on my website

    You remove the kickpanel to gain access to the ecu. Disconnect the wiring (2 big connectors) and a screw down the bottom. Lift and pull (it is latched on with hooks). Now take the ecu out of the car, remove the two torx screws holding the small cover on the memcal, and there is the memcal. I wouldnt bother playing. An "upgraded" one will be written for that cars modifications. If you dont have those modifications, you wont get any gain.

    yeh. cant be bothered to do it now. i'll wait till i get sum mods done first

    almost invariably you will get some gains from a general enhanced tune from another car, most are written to suit a car with normal type mods, cold air, exhaust etc.
    if you find a non standard one that will suit your car it will give you gains, unless of course it had a supercharger on it or something.
