metho in the fuel tank to get rid of any water?

Hi, sorry if this is a silly post but im new to commodores i just got a s2 vx ss manual with 145000km on the clock.
i noticed when i went and first had a look at the car is was low on fuel, and when i pickd the car up it was low on fuel so im guessing they used to run it fairly low most of the time!
As you know if it is low on fuel on cold nights it would build up condensation in the tank! i was told metho will help the condensation burn if there is any in the tank? is it safe or should i not even worry? i have only had the car 2 weeks, love the car

i know the oldman does this in his boat dont see why it wouldnt work in the car.

I poured about 250ml into 1/4 tank the other week, car still runs, its safe

I used to do this after my old HR was sitting for long periods of time, never hurt it but that was a old motor.

I've done it too.
The exhaust smells a little funny, but thats it.

it's perfectly safe

the theory behind it is that water wont mix with petrol but will with metho and that metho will mix with petrol

Metho displaces the water, or absorbs it.
It doesn't really mix with the fuel but it will burn, unlike water.

The tank wont rust!....... The fuel filter will catch any water droplets that get that far, so change the filter, then cut open the old one, then any water in the system will be evident. That'l put your mind to rest, ..........................to rest before you come up with something else to worry about...LOL
Metho in the tank is an old bushys trick, to get rid of moisture in fuel thats pumped from outback suppliers dubious tanks.

I don't think that you should even worry. If it's really a concern to you simply run a few tanks of E10 through it and change the fuel filter. "Metho" is just denatured ethanol anyway and I'm not sure that all the water is removed from it (unlike the ethanol used in E10).
