Could it be as simple as a relay or something?

So the power steering pump has decided that it doesn't want to go to sleep when the rest of the car does.

o_O
By pump do you mean power steering electric motor?

How does the circuit work? If it’s constant power to the motor and computer grounds it (either directly or via relay) to turn the motor on, such systems are prone to getting stuck on if a short occurs within the wiring somewhere. If power is switched to the motor, usually via a relay, you need to know how it’s switched (again usually computers ground stuff to turn them on…

PITA to resolve without a wiring diagrams :(

Info from MINI forums indicates it is likely carbon build up in the electrics of the pump.

Some funny stories about pulling them apart and blowing carbon everywhere.

How does the circuit work?

Apparently the pump receives a signal from the alternator.

Anyway, had it sorted yesterday.

Had the wrong fluid in it and leaks.

Running much quiter now and turns off.

Not a cheap exercise.
