I just replaced my fuel sender/pump unit. And let me tell you putting it back is an all day job. Does anyone know how they are supposed to go back in i just forced mine in. It's a VR V6 with std tank. I had to remove the return pipe inside the tank that goes to something but not sure does anyone know what's it for? Cheers.
Normally getting them out is the tricky part, and getting them in just takes a bit of time. They go in the same way they come out, bit of a twist and you shouldnt force. If you bend any of the assembly you can make the fuel gauge stop working properly/completely.
the return pipe is exactly that fuel return... if you had to force it in it wont work correctly you need to get the pump into the swirlpot in the tank. as its only an hour job maybe you would have been better off paying someone with some knowledge to do it as you will probably have to do so now anyway to fix it. Yeah, you really want to get that looked at. Correct, it IS a bitch of a job... took me three hours to get mine back in... but if you get it right, it won't involve force. More of a twist and pitch. Easier if you pay attention to how it comes out ^^ And yeah, as said above, return hose = critical, and swirl pot = good place for the pump to be.
when sliding the sender unti back in, there is a notch at the bottom of the tank hole, the float arm slides in that notch then when its almost all the way in, u can then twist the whole assembly to where its meant to be, pop on the return hose and away u go. just be gentle
I've reconnected the return pipe from the outside but there is a return pipe inside the tank that has a quick connect fitting to the sender unit. The pipe leads off to inside the tank. Does anyone know where it goes?
The hose from the return pipe on the sender goes onto a spigot on the bottom of swirl pot. The swirl pot is the black plastic "tub", about 150mm dia., 100mm high, that will be sitting on the bottom of the tank. With the sender out you will be able to see it if you look through the sender mounting hole. This is what the fuel pump sits in. Best of luck getting the hose back on, I don't think that it will be easy. (It should be possible if you haven't broken the spigot, just difficult). Can I remind you that the 5 sender bolts need to be sealed when it all goes back together - I use Loctite 242. (Don't use a silicon based sealer).
