I have a 2008 sv6; I’d like to “top up” the oil as it’s at low and prefer to wait a month or so before going to my mechanic as he’s away and don’t like swapping mechs.

I don’t know the exact oil they generally retop my car with although I know it’s 5w30, I bought some 5w30 that says “fits my car”, should it be a-okay to add? I’m more so concerned bout wether or not they’ve been using synthetic or non

I'll put it this way, if you took the car to a mechanic and it needed topping up they would just add whatever their house brand of 5-30 is.
As losh said, synthetic oil is best for these. If your oil fits your car I'm assuming it not mineral dinosaur blood anyway.
