Hey, What can you do to modify the air box to make some power? Like what restrictions are there and stuff, Ive heard people saying a good modified air box is way better than a pod but how can i modify it?
Heres an idea. Remove the Box and fit a K&N pod filter, it is legal as long as it is sufficiently supported and not flopping around. It add's adds to the pony's.
im pretty sure a pod filter is illigel plus all they do is suck in all the hot air from the engine bay so you are much better off buying ur self a cold air intake like this one. Holden Genuine Cold Air Intake - VN VP VR & VS V6 - eBay, Air Intake, Fuel Delivery, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 08-Sep-08 17:07:13 AEST)
ok the cheapest mod would be to rip the little dildo off the front of your airbox, and cut the whole at the front the whole length of the airbox wide. That would be a very simple cheap mod you could do, it is brutal yet semi effective. Personally I prefer the good old Cool air intake and a high flow panel filter, for under $200 total it's a nice combo.
yeah go with the cold air intake its pritty good i just recently put one on my car with a K&N air filter you wont notice heaps of difference in power but you'll get better fuel eco. its wirth it for the price.
Yep, i ran a K&N Pod filter in a custom set up on my old VP, now i own a VS Senator that comes stock with the HSV cold air intake and the high flow air box, i spent $80 on a K&N panel filter and that's all ya need. Works great too. The K&N panel filters are re-useable and washable with the K&N filter cleaning kits.
the newer models have a "2 whole mod" that can be done to the air box. I wouldnt say that there would be alot you could do to the vr/vs air box. But anything you can do to remove restriction might help
im running a twin pod setup also waiting on sum cold air feeding 80mm pipe which i will be running up to them to keep them nice n cool
cold air is more dense than hot air so more fuel can stick to it and it burns more efficiently by maintaining a better ratio of fuel and air. I could never get a good answer on this
basically your using the same ammount of fuel, or in some cases more fuel, but it is burnt more efficiently, which will produce a little more power, in some cases I would assume (makes an ass out of you and me) that if your getting a teeeny weeeny bit of extra power for the same fuel cost you will get more distance covered before that power is used. or something like that, it depends how you drive and what type of driving you do, i'd say stop start it might use more.
its always going to depend on how you drive. But by running with a cooler air intake the car runs at its best and uses less fuel. Only something like .3lt/100kms lol
