More A/C stuff

Hi guys
Just a question about removing the A/C thermostat in a VK.
Do you have to remove the evaporator core from the car to pull the thermostat out or can you just pull it out from the core and put the new one back in.

From memory its just attached to the passengers side of the heater box there is a thermocouple from the thermostat that is wrapped around a metal hose with insulating butal rubber pressed over it to insulate it.

I think the thermocouple is actually wrapped around one of the pipes going to the TX valve, I did mine over 6 years ago now its a little fuzzy.
