hey guys, doing a motor change over in my series 1 VS Berlina Ecotec V6 as the old one is un-repairable. Got the basic knowledge of how to do it and tools and location arnt a problem, just wondering if there is anything that i need to be careful of when doin this or anything that might arise to be a real pain and what will need to be replaced in the process. Any suggesstions etc. would be much appreciated. Cheers !
while you have an engine out if the rear main seal needs doing, replace it, replace the engine mounts too or at least the passenger side as it is a biatch. asside from that the only advise I can really offer is to not disconnect the A/C just unbolt it and tie it off to the side during the process.
Are you taking the engine/box out in one hit? or is the box staying in? i recomend taking the box out with the engine, as trying to line the motor and box up in the car is usually a nightmare! Also as dannyboy said, do your engine/gear box mounts while you have the engine out, it will be heaps easier to do! dont forget to bleed your cooling system after refilling it!
ahhh nice note about the cooling system, so long as we are pointing these things out, might be a good time to go around this engine and ensure it is 200% tight, might be smart to redo a few seals, etc but mainly things that cant really be done with the engine in like the sump gasket.
I've done a lot of Commodore V6 engine removal and replacement. With auto., I'm in agreement with cxcxcxvcvcvc, it really is a lot easier to pull the trans. as well.
