Dont worry, I understand that completely but alas when your desperate to get back on a bike (of some sort) and your technically classed as disabled by the government you take what you can get.
Also a dark tinted visor will stop all ppl from realising its me :D

I see one of these all the time around my way, and it sounds absolutely mean and tough. And he took off from the lights one day and man, did it move.
Not sure what size motor they run etc etc but if its stock, it goes alright.
Post pics cos i actually don't mind these :upyours:

Yeah, Australia do not get the Harley FLHTCUTG Trike, some stupid law to do with preventing homebuilt trikes or something, so I guess it is your only option left then aye.
Don't worry, Tinted visor should keep you on the down-low, LOL

Have fun back out on the road :)

Guys I have a question I would like ton pose. I'm in the market for a dirtbike as the gf has just gotten one.

I was originally looking tonight something like a kx250f yz250f or cr250f. As advised by the blokes at work

But a long term mate, been riding/racing for years has told me, being my first dirt bike would be better off looking into a 2 stroke bike

I'd like to keep their opinions out of it and hear what you all have to say.

I'll be doing trail riding, with beginner tracks and some jumps and the like. Never any racing though. And then obviously some low key riding when I'm with the gf.

So my question is 2stroke 250 or 4 stroke 250?

    Similar question as above:

I want to get another bike but never got my L's.

What are the better LAMS bikes out there? I like the cruiser look but open to other suggestions!

IMO 4 stroke. Unless you want to learn to do your own rebuilds etc you will tire of taking your 2 stroke into the shop so often. 4 strokes much less maintinance. Plus if you are just getting into (or back into?) bikes then the 4 stroke wont have you cart wheeling your bike down the track like when you hit the power band on a 2 stroke. haha. I love riding 2 strokes myself but would chose a 4 stroke hands down especially for trail riding etc.
I should be picking my new bike up this Thursday hopefully :D (Just waiting on a damn cheque to clear :( lol ). Spent $650 at MCAS in Sydney on the weekend on new gear. LOL. Have 2 bikes Im going to look at to chose from. An 09 CRF250R and an 09 KX250F. I like the CRF a bit more as Ive always liked Hondas and it looks wicked with the full black plastics. lol. But if it doesnt all check out in person the Kwaka looks damn tidy as well other then a small tear in the seat. So pumped to go riding this weekend!!

The list of LAMS bikes are long. Heaps to choose from. As far a cruiser go Im not to sure (not my thing). As far as sports bikes go, still a long list. Lol. I reckon the Hyosung GT250R/GT650R's look awesome and the newer ones have gone a far cry from the early ones that earned their rep as being cheap and crappy.
If you do commuting in a city at all, get a motard hands down. Light, agile, thin, easy the throw between cars, and it will release your inner hooligan to no end! (You wont wear through a front tyre even half as quick as you do a rear hahaha)

How big is your budget and what size are you looking for?

For a lams cruiser, I'd be looking at an xvs650 yamaha. I'm looking for a lams cruiser atm, but my budget doesn't stretch to the xvs, so I'll probably end up with a cheap 250 to start with.

Don't have any pix because I came off the hill at Kalamunda in 81, bike was destroyed and I spent nearly a year recovering after destroying my left ankle and lower leg. Have never got back on a bike.

It was a 1976 Z1000 just like this one..

A few years prior to that me and my bro-in-law used to drag a Yamaha 750 triple with a turbo on it..

Yeah its going to be for city commuting - I could shave heaps of time from my 30 minute drive.

Motards look interesting, wasn't a fan at first but starting to like what I read!

Probably 7k max including helmet and all that stuff. As little as possible for the bike itself is preferable, I didn't want to spend too much on a bike only to get rid of it when I get my opens.

I'm now thinking a cruiser might not be the most friendly of learner bikes?

Whats the consensus on the better brands for motards? Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki? Aprilia and the other euros might be a bit more than I want to spend.

Jesus, so many questions are running through my head haha!

Some bikes are more learner friendly than others. I prefer cruisers over sports bikes, but that's just my preference.

Try and ride a few different bikes before making up your mind. At the end of the day it's you in the saddle, so make sure you get something you can live with.

a motard is the best for round town honda crf450x would be good. dont think you would get for your budget though.

some guy. a four stroke would be best. have you thought about a 450 if your doing trail rides you dont want a 2 stroke

Sorry but your "experience mate" is completely wrong, if you were to jump on a 2 stroke 125 or 250 for your first bike/ride you will hurt yourself... get a 4 stroke definitely, even look at an old XR250 as these are tough, reliable and most suited to trail riding. Your CRF's, YZ's and the like, although 4 strokes they are designed to be ridden a bit harder, and the 2 stroke is just a racing bike which has to be going flat chat otherwise you foul spark plugs and other things go wrong.

XR250 would be my choice for you, Doesn't look flashy but you will enjoy riding it.

Errrm really? 2 strokes are meant to be thrashed, constantly! there designed for the pounding a 4 stroke is certainly capable of copping a bashing but no where near capable of copping the pounding a 2 stroke would and not to mention the 2 stroke loves it...

I learned to ride a bike with clutch and gears on an old late 80's yz 80, the bike i was riding before this was a peewee 50. To be honest i never rode a 4 stroke until them little pitbikes and thumpstars started coming around, 2 stroke is way more fun with the powerband but hey thats me.

If your not a big guy try an 80cc 2 stroke, im 175cm tall and weigh 85kgs and an 80cc still sends me flying through the bush, but a 125 has alot more go and power as well as the 250

Yeah 4 strokes are reliable and are most suited for long trail rides, dont get a 2 stroke if your planning on doing 50k trail rides... you will most likely melt a piston.

When i was younger my aunty and uncle had 2 yz 80s and 1 kx100 all 2 stroke we learnt to ride on these bikes for years slowly putting around, thrashing them, stacking them with only having the kx100 needing a top end rebuild and believe me that kx copped a brutal beating from myself and all my cousins (we all shared these bikes as kids, there were to many of us.)

4 strokes when they break down cost a bomb!! especially if its a piston or bottom end rebuild, 2 strokes are pocket change to fix compared to 4 strokes.. but as i said earlier 4 strokes are more reliable but you will still get incredible hours out of a 2 stroke with a fresh top end.

I putt around with my mrs on the back of my yz125 mate, but i ignore her wishes of going slow and smash through powerband all the time haha... but she loves it.

theres alot of pro's and con's to 2 stroke and 4 stroke but as i read in your original post it seems you are wanting something for trails which would be up the 4 stroke alley, but if your smashing it through the bush or paddocks go a 2 stroke man just take it easy on it for a little while until you feel comfortable

i just recently bought this bike, a 1992 yz125 shes not to bad but i reckon shes up for a top end rebuild soon (top end rebuild on motorbikes are easy, compared to cars i could do motorbikes with my eyes closed.)

Modern 4 strokes need almost as much rebuilding as a 2 stroke, but 4 strokes dont need to have their fuel mixed. 2 strokes are about as ride able as a 4 stroke now. Gone are the days of engines like my old TM125 that have no reed valve and a power band like a bucking mule, mine has no idle circuit in the carb so it doesn't bog and flood.

I would suggest a CRF230f or something similar from another manufacturer, gentle power curve, enough power to ride anything and electric start.
