Hey all,

Ive been looking at getting into some of my local motorkhana events for a while now so i thought a id build a car with all the bits ive got lying around and maybe one day turn it into a track car.

Im going to try keep an accurate record of the costs for others who might be interested in doing something similar.

Ive been given a VK Calais and a S1 VN. The current dilemma is i cant decide which car to use! The VK has no engine but is otherwise complete, the VN is also complete but has had the engine explode. Both cars are pretty rough, either car will be getting a Buick V6 i have with a T5 box to start off with. So its a much for much with mechanicals as i can swap everything between the two.

Costs so far:
Fuel $100
Car Trailer $150
VN $0
VK $0

I was planning on using the VK and the VN as parts but when i saw it i like the colour, its an ex Ramset Reps car. The VK is still complete its just got the bumper, lights grill etc in the boot. Which ever i pick will be stripped out so both will require the same amount of work really.

Is that an old Morris lined up next to them??. don't use that lol.
i'd say the VN only because i love VK's so seeing a VN get molested doesn't hurt so much haha.

yep use the vn as there will be less wiring issues and also the vk will be worth a lot more in time to come

Im leaning towards the VN now too, something about the colour. The VK is not a very good example to worry about being molested. Its is a genuine Calais but its been butchered inside from thieves as it was stolen and then recovered.

The car up the end is an FC Holden not a morris, its not to be used for this kind of thing.

Don't put a V6 in it, you get the **** taken out of you on this forum if you do that!!!! :)

Sounds like it will be fun, I still have my car and plan to do this with it one day as well.

Let us know what you decide on, I'll be watching this with interest.

I have a Buick V6 and T5 so its the cheapest option, i would love an LS1 or even just a super 6 but im a little low on funds so ill just make do with what i have. After much discussion with mates ive been convinced to use the VN. Ill keep the Vk in case i crash the Vn or want to use for something else though.

Ill start stripping the VN out on Friday :)

Been slower progress then i hoped but ive stripped the crashed VS out to use a few parts from it, im going to use the wider front end out of it mainly.

Did you happen to remove engine and gearbox on its side?
Looks like a half decent way to do it.
