Are there any mountain bike enthusiasts here who can help identify which brake pads I need?

I bought a mountain bike second hand and it has a disc brake on the front but there were no brake pads fitted.
Man, I'm having trouble finding the right part, even went to two local bike shops and they weren't sure what pads fit.

I emailed this mob from ebay who are in NSW and they sell the calipers the same as mine but apparently not the pads....
He suggested (but couldn't be sure) I might need the DSK 320 pad?

This is the exact brake caliper on my bike:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Promax-M..._trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&autorefresh=true

The number stamped on the caliper is Promax Z10 (but a search comes up empty)
The bike is a Dyno Xyron similar to this one...

Its not basically a copy of an Avid BB7 and the pads that suit that would then fit?
In all honesty, you could probably pick up a cheap replacement set of calipers and everything for about $30 that would do you just fine.
unfortunately it is a fair bit of a throwaway idea but generally for lower end components that's the way it goes.

for example, Just spent an hour stripping and regreasing sealed bearings on the bike because they had become slightly dry. Because they were specialist ones it was worth the maintenance on them. But if they were easily sourceable ones then they would just be getting replaced.

Go to the manufactures web site and look up the specifications then go buy locally,
Brake pads can be hard to purchase, you could remove the ones you do have and buy the same but that's only if it's still running the original calipers.

I figured out which pads I need. (no thanks to my local cycling gurus)
I would buy from a local bike shop except the asking price is so ridiculous, that importing some myself via eBay at a 1/4 of their price is what's happening.
Either local Aussie bike shops are price gouging or they need to find new suppliers

Wrong both times, they are not price gouging, nor do they need to find new suppliers, the reason they are expensive (in your mind) is because they pay rent at exorbitant rates to Australian landlords, and they also have to turn the far king lights on, which also, thanks to dickheads you probably voted into power, costs an absolute shitload of money to do.
So get off your high horse and understand the local bike shops have what you want today, just like any local supplier, and you don't have to wait until the parts are shipped to you from afar, maybe 1 to 4 weeks before they arrive.
And also understand, when all the local suppliers are gone, the price WILL GO UP.
You have been warned.

So you're blaming over priced bicycle brake pads on the 'economic rent seekers' in the Aussie property market and Aussie mining executives who sell all our gas offshore for a better price than they can get here, rather than create affordable energy security for our own country, so they can boost executive bonuses and baby boomer share dividends..? (sounds about right, actually)
L-O-L

If a local bike shop needs to sell over priced brake pads to keep 'em in business, they deserve to go broke when punters head offshore via eBay...if it's good enough for Aussie mining execs it's good enough for me.....plus, they couldn't even tell me which pads fitted my calipers, I had to find that out myself!

Yeah bro.....Aussie property (land) is ridiculously priced as well.
But, according to our political leaders, Aussies are wealthier than ever thanks to our expensive houses...
....hang on mate, I'll just go grab some equity from my speculative over-priced investment property so I can pay for my over priced f-ucking brake pads.

It takes more than me (one person) to vote self serving, morally corrupt dickheads into power...but hey, thanks for making ass-sumptions about who I voted for.
There's a lot wrong with this country, but it sure as eggs isn't working class peasants looking for reasonably priced bicycle brake pads via eBay.

I would just say that they really didn't want to have to touch your brakes.
Likely to be something that isn't an off the shelf brand (ie Shimano) or ones that really would ever likely have pads replaced in their lifetime.
Some parts and brands really aren't worth the hassle. (Now if you talk about the Hope M4s like I have, its another story)

But, that's someones thoughts who has very limited knowledge of the cycling industry

They never needed to touch my brakes, all they needed to do was sell me a pair of pads sitting on their shelf...but not at $30
I've bought the exact same product on eBay for $7 delivered to my door.
Buy two pair, keep one in the draw and it''s still half the price....

It's not rocket science.

I don't own a multi-thousand dollar bike with Hope M4's :p

PS
Your front brakes are prolly worth more than my entire bike, *chuckle...which I bought second hand just for general fitness and enjoyment.
I've always enjoyed riding

Hmmm, was it something I said ? LOL
In the most part, I agree with you, we are between a rock and a hard place, needing to save money but also needing to keep the country going .
I buy what I can wait for on the net, but it is fraught with danger as I found out after buying a phone battery from an NZ company only to find it was already 18 months old, but then there was the air con remote delivered for $27 where as the local outlet wanted $250, as you say not rocket science.
My apologies for telling you who you voted for.
