all the edges will sand out flat, except for one area on the passenger side which i think will need a bit more reo-fill, but wont know until i start working on the metal part of the 1/4 panel so see where it sits. but yeah at this stage its looking like ill have to put more filler in it.
tonight, im going to focus on this bit: itll require a bit of angle grinder, and i may pull the TIG out to get a clean weld which i dont have to spend 2 weeks filing back afterwards, but depends on how clean the steel is. it looks pretty good, but the underside may be a different story, and the TIG needs everything to be spotless to get a nice bead.
first time im seeing the colour... its very... not what i was expecting... im doing these bits tonight so i can put all the chromework and rubbers back on and seal up the car: my masking skills need improvement: the reason im doing paint and not panel, is cos' the #$% $%^& at BOC wouldnt let me take a acet bottle in my car... granted, it IS against the law and everything, but still ive always picked it up in my car anyway, i cracked the sads and left the bottles with them, ill decide on whether to go el-gas or not when i hear back on their prices. TBH BOC seems a little expensive on their hire/exchange rates and they have SPASTIC delevery costs. plus takes them sometimes 2 weeks to deliver.
supagas sook at me takign argon bottles in car. As much as i hate supagas their prices are pretty good they crack it if you dont pay your rental on time pay by the year now
tomorrow night ill put it all back together, then i can have windows, so may just move back to the inside and ignore the boot for a while.
Colour in a tin always looks different to on the car. I did a car in "Silver Monarch Grey", an original LTD colour, it looked liked primer in the can, but on the car it was pretty good once the chrome went back on the I did the window surrounds black. As much as I really enjoy this build, you seem to #### around an awful lot lol.
these just arrived, which makes me VERY happy: correct bevel and tapered head and (looks like) proper stainless, not chrome or zinc. happy camper. also fitted my eyelids on the weekend: sleepy impala is sleepy. also, VN_luke came round this weekend and helped heaps ripping the interior back out, neatening up wiring behind the dash, installed the PCM onto the floor and got all the looms ready for carpet. while he was doing that i got 1 indicator to work properley no pics on that cos' fluffy is resting and its dark in there.
Looking at those eyelids is making me sleepy.... ZzzzzzzzzzzzzZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..... Looking good mate. Can't wait till you blast this thing with the green!
I think the eyelids look cool. But looking through my Impala books it doesn't seem they were a factory optional extra. Are they just an aftermarket unit? Can we see a photo with the headlights switched off? BTW: I have read this entire thread, and read every update. I've just never posted in it before. I can't wait to see this beautiful machine when it's finished. :spot on:
be happy to: with and without flash: theyre not factory option, just something i dig. not that a 1996 454, commodore transmission and PCM, ford power steering pump and brakes are factory either
Oh, I'm aware you're not doing a period-correct restoration, just building a beastly as f*** machine. I've just always been a fan of Impala's and wondered if this was something I had missed/never been aware of. They suit the car really well.
they actually more of a VW thing really: but you do see them on lowriders a fair bit: they pretty much kill visability at night, so there are a lot of reasons NOT to have them, but i dunno... any chance to put more chrome on, i guess. also those pics have made me realise just how ugly the gap is without eyebrow moulding, so i just ordered new ones, as my old ones are beyond repair. these fkers:
i woke up the gimp to show VN_lukes work and give koudos: ecu mounted solid as a rock, and quick release fitted for those times i wanna leave it somewhere a bit dodgie, the ecu will come with me: sometimes i wish i had OCD; dash is currently back to looking like this: i must say... its reeeeally nice to be able to jump in, turn a key and move the car on its own steam. after months and months of having to push it round, its a really nice change. so the short term goals are to: fit the brightwork to the door gaps fit all rubbers and seals fit door trims window winders and door handles adjust passenger front and rear doors (this needs to be done before fitting any rubbers) longer term goals: clean up the dash wiring a bit more complete the install of the alarm so remote central locking works. atm the alarm triggers, but doesnt make the doors work fit up the dahsboard better. doesnt sit right at the top edge fit up the VSS to the back of the speedo in such a way it allows proper alignment of the cluster fit up the heater controls properley possibly look at fitting the stereo fit up the fuse block, main fuse and relays somewhere nice
oh, and based on this suggestion, i just recieved my argon, argon light, oxy and acet (and a fk off big bottle of LPG for my heater) today. supagas kick the **** out of BOC for pricing. cheers for the suggestion, rep coming your way.
