this is the display:
1239869_10151610010576402_1562793994_n.jpg

the space between park and L is 50mm.
L-D=11mm
D-N=9mm
N-R=9mm
R-P=20mm

L will need 3 LED's close together, cos' the trans has 3-2-1 i believe so either spaced under 3mm or a multicolour (red 1 blue 2 green 3)

also good to remember that the servo will need to go a double rotation to get from R to P. all the gears in the trans are even steps except for park which is double.

if the LED strip can be used, i was thinking of sticking behind the base of the display facing upwards, so itll just light up the back of the letter.

one of these:
$(KGrHqR,!jgE95PIkZT)BPzO!ER3,Q~~60_3.JPG

with a slot cut in the end to slide over the neutral switch thingie

then fastened to the column like thus:

column shift.jpg

then ill just work on a way of limiting the travel of the column shift so it isnt relying on the switches as the stop position. just a couple of blocks of alloy should do it.

it would be easy if the column shifter was solid cause then we could just add a rotary switch on the end

What i am thinking is somewhere we mount gear teeth to the selector column and have a rotary encoder also attached to a gear... as the selector column rotates the rotary encoder will also rotate but not through a full 360 degrees so we have a position for every option (P,R,N,D, etc) obviously the gear ratio here would be important. The problem is if i'm thinking correctly the shifter column moves up and down as well which would means either a)a wide set of gears on the column to allow it to slide up and down or b) this wont work

lol, just bought another ford part to add to the list:

mayyyy have a hood clearance issue, but since im re-doing the firewall, shouldnt be that much of an issue.

the brake light switch WILL be a problem, but ill figure that out when i get it.

add a pressure switch like bikes use. tees into brake line, when it sees pressure, bingo lights

there is no room in the engine bay so lets forget the "end of the column" cos it needs to attach to the steering box :p

for the gap between park and R its easy, just do a 2 rotation move to go from park to R and back again.

anyway, 700 bucks to get the bar rechromed, OR:

PPC • Restoration Specialists • Glisten PC

4 liters for 382 bucks. then just POLISH ALL THE THINGS!!!
