Ahhh Richmond, I'm at the next store over in Malvern. They scab a lot of parts from us, chances are I've thrown something for you into the "Richmond" tub at some point
lol, ill bet. burson are geat cos' i am so frikken lazy to chase around. i just ring up my boys and they sort me out. even if i have to spend a bit more, i am alone in my worksop so dont have time to drive around looking for parts, and even if i have time, guaranteed, when i leave the shop some delivery/a car/ customer will show up while i am away. anyway, nuff blowing smoke up burson bum. go f' all done today before during: and the after pics will take me prolly till the end of this week. oooh yeah, my windscreen arrives tommorow AM LMOA, just noticed the pic of my thongs/safety boots
Hahaha you're a bloody OH&S nightmare you are Can't believe how much more rust was behind that panel. Nasty stuff. Have you ever gotten around to attempting your sills again?
bloody hell she is comeing along "good on ya m8" . i remmember my older cousins bringing cars back 2 my grandfathers . putting them in his shed and stripping them down and thay had big plans. but once the car was appart that was it never gonna be put back 2gether againe i think out of 7 cars he next 2 finished a torana hatch but once againe sold the unfinished project .....i come back 2 see how ya cars moving along i just about every day .......its good m8 its still comeing along nicely and ya have not given up lol good on ya
well, my mate "finished" the passenger side sill, so i need to rub over the bog with fine finsh bog to fill the little holes and stuff, so thats all good. those pics above are of me attempting the next patch, these ones are the start on the patch in place i was watching my mate do it like a jigsaw puzzle, whereas when i went at it was trying to do it with one piece of metal. during the whole process, the patch looks like shite and i was thinkin "oh, thats so bad. i dont want that crap on my car, my mates an arsehole etc etc etc" but once we layered bog on it and finished it off... it actually looks perfect. i cant get a decent pic cos no light on that side of the shed, but yeah. itll be painted this weekend and yeah caliber, this is about my 4th "project". every other one has ended up in bits on the back of a truck heading to the wreckers. i swore to myself i was ACTUALLY gonna finish this one, and now i have spent too much cash on her to justify selling or scrapping. so i have no choice EDIT* JUST GOT MY NEW WINDSCREEN!!! (cruise control)
check this out: so my mate took two months to finish the passenger side patch, claiming it took him 24 working hours and blah blah blah. i knocked this one up a bit of yesterday and today, 6 hours total (i still gotta grind down all the welds etc): i think i have my confidence back with this stupid rust patching business...
woooooooooooo that is one IMPRESSIVE patch you have right there That's a work of bloody art! Gives me a bit of inspiration for when the time comes to patch mine up, too. LOVE your work. If you can do that, you can do anything, really
anyone know where i can get hinges rebushed? the driver side if f'd. it looks like the pin is removable, but i think its worn more than just the pin.
it looks good m8. and i coulden't scrap it ether. its hard when ya think of the money side of it ayyyyyy good on ya be back soon 2 chek out the l8test on her .
Ari I noticed in the pics in post 142 that the inner structure of the pillar was pretty badly corroded. Have you repaired the inner skins or just replaced the outer? That's a critical area of the car for strength and it really needs to be repaired fully to retain the car's structural integrity. My apologies if you have done it - it's just that the pics don't show any inner structure repairs.
stuff structural! thats where my speakers are going! lol. yeah mate. on the passenger side i cut out all the rust first (4 panels worth), then made patches with the bits i had taken off the car which really overcomplicated things cos i ended up just guessing a lot of it. this time i decided to do it a little bit different, i.e take a patch off, make that patch fit with everything, then take the next one off and make it fit with everything and the other new patch. it seems to make a lot more sense. so i have done the vent channel cover and outer pillar (the pic shows outer pillar with vice grips holding it in place). was gonna hit the sill and the inner wall yesterday but it got to 39 or so degrees which equals 6000 degrees in the shed, so i got drunk with a mate instead... gonna hit that today cos' it quite nice temp in there atm. i struck another hurdle yesterday though, put the radiator in, plumbed up the hoses and tranny lines. filled it with water and out the water came. there must about 10 small leaks in it which means the water just flows out... great... just what i needed, another 500 or so bucks which i dont have till next year cos' im on holidays. i dont understand either, the rad was fine when i took it out. must have just opened some holes by sitting empty for so long.
hey, i got a 65 impala 4 door pillarless! they are good cruisers ay. keep up the good work its good to see some american steel on this website!! im planning on doing mine into a full lowrider, i bought a set of 100 spoke deep dish wire wheels from america. i want to put in hydraulics and everything.
sweeet! wheres the pics? huh? i dont see any pics maybe we can swap storys about the nightmares finding parts. but keep me in the loop about the lowrider shocks, cos' even though i am not gonna do it with this one, i have found a guy in the states that wants to bring cars over here/modify and sell, so might be looking into it in the near future. anyway, some cutting and patching photos while my lamb is cooking on the bbq... sill panel off sill panel patched the three patches so far, another two to go but they get welded straight onto the body. and the hole that is left after it is all cut out :S i have never uploaded anthing to youtube before but my friend took some footage on his phone and bluetooth'd me so here: damn phone microphone sounds shhhhite ...
lol! never said i didnt believe you, just wanted to see what she looked like. was kinda hoping for a 100 spoke wheel shot, but nevermind. was she a good runner when you got her or roughly was/is in the same poor state as mine? maybe we could trade nightmare stories about trying to find obscure parts i still cant decide if i like the 65 better or the 66. its a pretty close race, i think 66 is winning cos' i have one, but still there is something about that 65 rear isnt there? well i have one more patch to make this morning, so hopefully that whole pillar section will be welded on and bogged up by tonight. my goal is to have both pillars, vent channel covers, door jams, windscreen frame and remainder of the firewall (there are two spots that need touching up cos i stuck masking tape on it way too ealry and the paint decided it liked the tape better than the firewall) fine puttied up and ready for paint on sunday. so if all goes to plan, she is gonna be covered in rich beautiful green *swoon* by next week.
well, its lunchtime again, so while my food cooks i post pics.. this is me making the inner sill patch, using the old rust as a guide the patch cut out and installed got the sill inner and outers on, the vent support and blown some aerosol can black on it i have the door bracket to line up and weld in place, the outer pillar patch and the vent channel patch to go. dunno if i am going to meet my personal deadline of "having everything in and bogged" by tonight, but will see.
65 is way better, 100 spokes arent on yet, waiting for 1 new tyer from the states then tney are going on, i had alot of spares from my dad so i was lucky, but i havent touched the car im waiting till im older
IT FITS!!! FINALLY! Dude - at this rate, you could build another entire car from scratch using templates
I don't think I've ever seen so much rust being replaced. Did you know it was as bad as that when you first started the job?
