Hi just looking for advise on my auto trans,
i recently lost my reverse gear after having reved the bag outta her a little too much on a sunday cruise. when i change down from park to drive the car inches forward and just revs out, if i move it one spot lower to neutral position it seems to be as if its in drive and proceeds forward as if in drive, apart from this the transmission seems to opperate soundly as per usual in drive, always changes up and down in correct time and seems almost undamaged.
Anyone with any information or further knowledge on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks ;)

I'm confused, is reverse gone or has drive gone? The trans goes P-R-N-D-3-2-1. Dunno how you can drop it down from drive to neutral. Are you sure you're not in neutral? lol

alternatively are you 100% sure the selector linkage hasn't slipped under the car? can you push the car with the engine and handbrake off with it in the P position?
although i'm guessing it may not be the linkage as OD (4) would now be 3rd if N is thinking it's 4th (OD, D) so it should still go forward and not have the issues you describe, but can't hurt to check the bolt is tight underneath and isn't slipping, easier than replacing the trans or rebuilding it as a first step.

how is it reacting in P is you push the accelerator? revving freely or acting as if you had it in drive and holding the brakes on firm?

Are there any error codes? rule out an electrical issue and to confirm it's a mechanical failure.
