Well yeah they do time for an upgrade i reckon what are your recommendations?.It's an 03 VY SS Ute manual maybe a pad/rotor/fluid combo or even a caliper upgrade depending on price.I do a lot of heavy traffic driving get to a highway once and a while like to start dragging it at test and tune days to muck around like to stop at the end of the strip too. Any input/info would be great thanks :)

Caliper upgrades aren't cheap, how much grunt you wishing to pull up well? I don't know the standard rotor size for a VY V8 f & r or if you can upsize to VE spec(for example) But there would be info on that around if you do a search and or wait for feedback from a VY V8 owner.

quality slotted rotors/pads/fluid would set you back less than a grand dependent on the actual spec you chose, even if you upgrade to VE 321 front/324 rear combo(plus fitting if you don't dyi)...

could look for second hand Harrop HSV set up, there is one in NZ on trade me for around $1500 excluding rear discs and pads.

My plan is to go with Bendix Ultimate pads all round and slotted discs change the fluid to a higher performance non-silicon based and see if it improves as much as my FTO did.

Im about todo my brakes I have the parts doing then next week.

A few options I found in my research.

What im doing is good dba rotors all round. Dba t2's $100 a corner, then really good pads cant remember which ones but about 70 a pair. Cheapest option and very decent.

Second hand hsv set 800-1400 but chances are the rotors and pads will be worn and n3ed replacement either straight away or in the near future. Which means your looking at another 600.

no, larger discs require larger calipers.
From memory the fronts are 315mm and the rear are 305?mm same as the V6. Yes that are ****. Get some AP racing or Harrops if you want to stop.

The ve brake upgrade kit from gsl is about 800. Full brand new kit. Problem is that you can only use rda rotors pm gsl for details but a good option.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that you may be surprised at what good discs, pads and new good quality fluid will do for your car.

Yeah i would go for a Bendix Ultimate pad and a T3 rotor set with Motel Brake fluid you know the hi temp rating one normally. But thought I'd go with something a bit more than average for me. As i will be modifying my Ute with more power upgrades sorry i should have stated that in my original post.Would i be able to get 4pots with a bigger disc for under a grand?. I'd be happy with a bigger front set up and pad and rotor rear change for now. Thanks for the input so far guys..

front and rear rotors, pads and fluid, not calipers...probably wouldn't get out of caliper change even one set for under a grand no,although I haven't priced calipers.

Keep an eye out on eBay & places like that. I got front only my AP Racing kit brand new for $1500, at the time they retailed for $3500.

The difference that kit made was amazing!

I am not sure what the rules are where you are but it should be noted that changing brakes to non-OEM may mean you need to engineer/cert your car, in NZ you definitely do, here is is about $480 to get a cert done.

That is why I am waiting on a set of Harrop's to come up as they can on the VX HSV so it can be argued that they are OEM.

Nah its a full kit. Careful though cos they are not a direct swap. Which is why you have to buy from gsl as they have made a special kit and special rotors to suit. Check out the sponsors section they have a thread.

And you could get a full set of big brakes for under a grand. Just wait for second hand hsv brakes, problem is they will be second hand and may need to replace rotors and discs at some point again.

Thanks for the reply's guys sorry for the late reply.I was thinking i might wait for a second hand hsv set up to show up on flea bay but as VRStato64 stated i will end up having to replace the rotors down the line.

I paid 650 for my 4 pot ap racing front setup incl rotors. Second hand. If you want to stop, spend the money on decent brakes and not half arsed bitsa kits. Search eBay forums Facebook like a hawk.
