Probably a shift solenoid, comes up as error 66 i think. Costs around $200 to fix, sounds like the same thing that happened on my vr.

Not exactly mate, it feels like it takes off in 2nd gear from a standing start(which it did). But if i manually select 1st gear it will be ok then it will hit 2nd as soon as i select it. Do a fault code check and it will definately confirm it if it is what i'm suggesting. Mine actually went after i took off from a set of lights pretty hard then when cruising (at the speed limit) the light came on, i thought nothing of it until i came to a stop and thats when i knew that it had something to do with the engine light coming on, cos there was no need to stop between traffic lights and it ran ok cos there was no need to shift down, only when taking off did it affect it cos it didn't take off from 1st. Hopes this helps mate.
